ISU showing what happens when you live by the 3

you also die by the 3. Not a good showing at home tonight. Not even Hilton could save bad perimeter shooting.

They look like they have some regrouping to do. A lot of head hanging out there for them.

Being more balanced is a good thing, and I am glad Iowa is if the long ball isn't dropping on a particular night.

So many teams in the college hoops just chuck threes and it makes for some boring basketball. The title contenders in this conference can all score by attacking the paint and they could all beat any team in the country.

The law of averages is catching up with them. They aren't a legit top ten team, you just cant have a front line that small and consistently hang with the big boys.

I for one will enjoy watching their slow descent back to "die Rattenkeller" (where they belong).

Clanking threes is bad enough, but ISU compounded the problem by a weak rebounding effort. Kansas had a 56 to 38 advantage. It seemed like a lot of ISU's 3-pt shots were taken when no other ISU players were anywhere near the hoop.

There's a lot of truth to this. Come tourney time ISU will need to get hot shooting in order to make a run. If they aren't knocking down 3's at a high rate then they won't make it past the second round once again. Niang is good, but he's at his best when they are hitting their perimeter shots because it opens him up down low. He becomes somewhat irrelevant when the shots stop falling. Kane is their best option to attack the basket. His health will be key.

I'm completely biased, but in my opinion the way Iowa plays the game will serve them better come tourney time. Their length, depth, and the way they constantly attack the basket is hard for any team to handle. They don't rely on outside shooting to win ballgames. Then when they are hitting their outside shots it's a big bonus.

Anything can happen, but if I were to bet on it I would take Iowa to make a deeper run in the big dance. I would be on cloud 9 if the Hawks ended up playing them again.

The Hilton magic of +10 calls or T/O couldn't overcome poor shooting and rebounding. Goes back to that superbowl myth, ISU beats IA but falters after.

actually what ISU lives and dies by is not playing defense... they are a top 25 team but they are not a top 10 team... no way.

This. Kane is an absolute stud. Without him they'd be pretty mediocre. If he goes down for any reason the Clones are in deep chit.

Clones couldn't even overcome the insane amount of turnovers committed by a young Kansas team. I think the Clones were something like +14 in the TO margin. No way a team should lose at home with such a stat in their favor.

Not this **** again.

ISU had a 34-19 free throw shooting advantage, even after chucking up 3 after 3. At the 8 minute mark of the 2nd half, ISU had attempted 22 free throws and Kansas had a grand total of 6 free throw attempts. I don't know if there's a stat anywhere that shows this or not, but I've got to believe that ISU has to have the #1 home court free throw shooting discrepancy in the country. It's insane....especially considering that Kansas was definitely the aggressor in this game and was going to the hoop constantly while ISU was content to chuck up 3's.

This. Yet their fans continue to cry about the refs. It's an absolute joke. Fouls and FT's don't have to be even, but when you get outrebounded by a massive margin and take more 3's than the opponent it literally makes 0 sense to have that discrepancy in FT's and fouls. Same as the Iowa game.
