ISU Pollard video crying over calls

This is an act of desperation by Pollard. He is trying to pay for closing in the stadium and trying to raise all this money behind a losing program. The problem is, it's not the officiating. Bad teams let a kickoff bounce to the goal line and then give up a 97 yd KO return for a TD. He's really afraid of getting fired for hiring a bad coach and losing football and conerns that they will lose their fans.

Exactly right Jon. I think Rhoads usually acts like an idiot on the sidelines. He should take some cues from Fred. He knows how to work officials. Oh, and by the way, he knows how to win. And, that's the whole problem. ISU isn't winning. Winning teams don't have this problem.

Let's be honest here. If Iowa State ADs are going to be fired for losing football seasons, we are going to see a revolving door of Iowa State ADs.

Pollard should not fear losing his job due to the performance of the football team. Pollard should, however, be worried about losing his job as a result of making his institution look foolish.

That's a good point. I think Pollard was out of line. Are we seeing a pattern with AD's now? Pat Haden?

You are essentially saying that no coach can win at ISU.

Not exactly. What I am saying is: (1) losing seasons are the norm for Iowa State and with a few rare exceptions, always have been; (2) expectations for AD performance should be consistent with (1); and (3) getting ISU to become a winning football program would be a difficult task for even the best ADs out there, so failing to get ISU to become a winning football program is not a fair test of an AD's competence.

For the record, I think that the right coach could win at ISU (and his name was Dan McCarney and they fired him).

So..Pollard is stupid like getting kicked out of your kids HS basketball game for yelling at the refs kinda stupid? I'll believe it when I see it.

You should stop crying because the clowns should be 0-5 if not for the big 12 refs and some terrible calls in their favor.

Yes, they're out there to get Pollard and the University

These local sports hacks trying to find the hidden genius in Pullhard's self-crucifixion crack me up. Pullhard accused the Big XII of conspiring to rig the outcome of games. He's dead AD walking.

Yeah, he probably should have waited for a call that the refs actually got wrong to play that card. You know in order not to look like a complete *******.

Sounds like he only got fined $25k. Not bad. The Big 12 was pretty easy on him.

That's probably not chump change for him. I wonder if he has to pay it personally. He did get off pretty easy though. That's the same amount the Pac 12 fined Pat Hayden just for being on the sideline.

he got off entirely too easy. he should have been fined, and suspended/sanctioned.

talk about embarrassing your league. i'm sure he is getting an earful off-line. the way it sounds, his boss didn't know he was going with that speech - i'd want to run that by the 'brass' before i let that one fly...

Agreed, but at the end of the day, the Commissioner's office probably views Iowa State the same way MLB viewed the Montreal Expos. Terrible team that doesn't fit the geographic market and has no fan base, but we gotta keep them around to be a rent a victim for the rest of the league.

Hasn't ISU been officially apologized to for bad officiating recently by the Big12? If I'm remembering right I would think Pollard should grow a pair and turn Bowelsby's words against him by saying quality officiating doesn't need to apologize for bad calls, since there shouldn't be enough bad calls 1 direction to feel the need to. The bad calls should be fairly balanced.

no, folly just needs to keep his mouth shut. it is unreal how light of a slap he got. mistakes happen - officials make mistakes and there is a history of officials admitting such after-the-fact.

That was the biggest fine ever that the Big12 laid down on Pollard. What else are they gonna do, besides fine him? That is why he did it, they weren't going to do anything to him.

I would be willing to bet that Pollard called Bowlsby right away and said, he Bowls, it's Jamie here. You know I was just joshing right? I mean we're buds and everything, but I gotta give these whacks jobs a pound of flesh. Fine me whatever you want, but I got tickets to sell next year, and this turd of a team ain't gonna win games to get people in the stands, so I gotta do all the heavy lifting around here.

Pat Hayden was fined $25k.

I'd say Fol crossed the line much further than Hayden did.

I mean, Fol accused the league of corruption, no? Pretty serious accusations.

I can't believe he wasn't suspended, or something more of a sanction.
