Is Trey Dickerson Hurt/Injured?

I presume Dickerson has looked in practice like he has in games--bad. Really, he hasn't even looked promising.

It was a curious scholarship offer to begin with. Another true point guard, that was a low major recruit out of high school that is only one year behind two returning point guards.

Quite frankly, we'd probably be best off if he transferred giving us two scholarships for the Spring signing/transfer market. We desperately need a big and could probably get a better guard than Dickerson with more class separation from Gessell/Clemmons.

Disagree totally here--Dickerson has shown some promise. With what small sample size we have seen from him--you simply even begin to form a total opinion. I am not happy with the current state of Iowa BBall, but to throw Dickerson away already would be silly--remember he is actually a sophomore with only JC experience. He is quicker than anyone on the court when he is in games, just needs to be smarter. What exactly have you based your opinions on?

Poor play doesn't influence playing time on this team. He must have slept with someone's girlfriend.

I explained my opinions. It's nothing personal against Dickerson. But this roster has deficiencies and we only have one scholarship left. We need a big man, we also need a slashing wing, and a freshman point guard next year would be better for roster distribution than Dickerson.

I also don't think Dickerson is any sort of transformative talent. He's small, his handles have looked sloppy, and he hasn't looked good at all. He hasn't even flashed really, which most good young players will do, even if they are making mistakes. He's quick and can jump, I'll give him that.

But, really, given this roster, we don't need three true points guards bunched together as juniors/sophomores, unless they were very good players.

It's also hypothetical, and I'm not suggesting we should run him. I'd just as soon not have Ellingson on the team too for that matter. I'd rather free that scholarship up too. We need a talent upgrade, and its hard to do that without scholarships.

Drew003 is the only person in this thread making any sense. When Dickerson has played (against bad competition), he has looked terrible. I could kick more 3-pointers in than he could shoot. He is not ready to play at this level, and I don't think that will ever change.

Reality is, everyone is upset not because of who we lost to, but how we lost them. I'm with you on that. But playing Dickerson is not going to change anything. We need a talent upgrade, and with the team we have it's going to take a few years (if ever). It is likely to be a long year, but Gesell is the most competent PG on the roster.

And the sad thing is Mike G is a shooting guard forced to run the point.
