Is this the best Iowa team ever?

I keep asking myself what if this 2015 Iowa team played MSU's schedule this year. What would be Iowa's Record?

But its hard to answer because I would not expect Iowa to go undefeated against Iowa's own schedule this year. So sure I could say Iowa would be only 9-3 with MSU's schedule but untill they play MSU, I don't really know.

That's the bottom line. We still don't know how good this team is this year. The MSU game will help answer that question.

Well there simply would be no point or good that can come from what if's like that. I'm jealous because I can't sit in your shoes and just revel in the fact that My team won every game they played haha! So it could clearly be worse for ya, They can only play who is put in front of them and you never really know what kind of team it will be nowadays.
What should give you guys peace though is that Iowa seems to really have their focus dialed in this year even keel business as usual approach that Coaches always Talk about but very very few teams actually do. Iowa is most definitely that team this season. So no matter who they play I think you can expect or anticipate consistency!

I posted this on another thread as well.

Time will be our teacher. As a student of history, it is indeed the victors that write and record history. There are a couple of obvious questions one must ask.

1. Is the historically best team simply chosen by a collection of the greatest individual players gathered on one team regardless of record? The quick follow up question is how is that determined? College career? Pro career? You can point to the 2002 or 1985 rosters and say they were the best based on nfl careers, etc. Who is to say that there isn't a ton of nfl talent on this year's squad?

2. Is the historically best team the team with the best record? 12-0 is indeed historical. But did it just simply win more games than the other years and simply could not be as talented as 2002 and 1985? Does the eye test matter? This judging simply says best season.

3. Is the historically best team the team who finishes rated the highest at the end of the season? There are some 1950's/60's even 1920's teams that could argue at that point. The teams of the 1920's could argue for inclusion in consideration 2.

In the end this 2015 squad can argue in all three areas as there is a ton of talent, some young and developing, that could make this team finish high, finish with the most wins (check), and possess possibly some of the greatest talents in hawkeye history.

There is an excellent chance that next year's squad, if king and or Ott are back, will be the most talented and anticipated team in iowa history. Good news for hawk fans!!!

If you mean the final month of regular season, then you're wrong. We actually began that month with an OT loss at Illinois. We beta PSU on a last-second FG, and didn't exactly overwhelm Purdue. It was the 55-0 shellacking of Minnesota and beating an in-WAY-over-their-head South Carolina that fuels this illusion.

Yes, the 2008 team was very good team. But you don't count "the last month", you count THE WHOLE SEASON. That team lost four games. End of story.

SG staying for 2009 probably would have made a big difference, as we probably would have thrown less, hence, maybe Stanzi doesn't get injured the way he did against NW.

Because when the #3 team in the nation DOES finally lose, it's always convincingly. The Purdue game was played in poor conditions (cold as **** and dreary), and Iowa played it close to the vest offensively (which was fine, considering how Greene ran roughshod throughout the game). Between Greene and that defense (which was downright nasty), that team was damn tough to beat down the stretch.

In 1960 Iowa beat #3 ranked osu 35-12, and #6 ranked northwestern 42-0! If not for the tie breaker against Minnesota I think they go on and win the Rose Bowl and beat Washington.
