Is This A Bad Stat?

Seriously, does anyone think of the hidden yardage in those punts? Iowa is not having to drive very far. I get it that it's bad, I am not arguing that, it's bad...but some of those yards are being covered up because of our special teams. Unless I am completely off in that line of thinking? I mean, that line of thinking would also lead one to believe that there should be more points total too, so I am sure there is an argument to be made against that.

Again, Iowa has turned the ball over at least 2 or 3 times in the redzone. I feel like Williams fumbled around the 11 against SDST and I feel like there were 2 fumbles in the ISU game.

Not an excuse, but I think some of the #'s can be skewed a touch by having a punter who flips the field almost every time he kicks.

I guess what I am saying is, Rutgers has had an easier schedule IMO, and they have a pretty good punter. They also have a pretty bad offense but have played easier competition. TT has over 1100 yards in punts. That's a lot of hidden yardage a football team could gain. By comparison, Rutgers, who also has a really good punter, only has 500 yards - so less than half.... meaning Rutgers has had more gettable yards. Iowa has also punted more, but I think they've played better defenses and I think they would rather pin a team deep then try and drive 90 yards.

I'm likely talking out of my ass.

would love contrary takes.

But you can look at it the other way to. You have a punter with all those yards because the offense is not moving the ball. You shouldn't have your punter punting 10 times a game, like against South Dakota St. That's not a good sign. Your punter shouldn't have 1,110 yrds in 3 games, especially early in the season in non-conference games that are supposed to be cupcake games. To me, that is a red flag concerning the offense and shows they are not sustaining drives down the field.

It's only a positive because we have prob the best punter in the nation. If we didn't, it would really be an concerning.

Even you have to admit the offense is abysmal, right?

I get what you are saying, but I'm not sure you want a team to rely on those kinds of "hidden yards". I guess that's what I am saying.

Iowa and Rutgers arguing who had the weaker schedule. Hilarious except for Clowns which adds to the fun.

I think what is more disconcerting, when you think about it, is using them as a bar.
I'm only using it as the bar because they're next on the schedule and they also have a limited offense with a great punter. I think their punter is actually better than Tory

Any chance we can combine all of the threads purporting to show statistically that Iowa has a bad offense? I mean, every thread on here eventually devolves into a contest in who can hate Petras/BF/OL more, but I don't think we need ANOTHER thread about ANOTHER stat showing Iowa has a bad offense.

EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD KNOWS THAT IOWA'S OFFENSE IS BAD!!!!!

Maybe not everyone....

It's going to make for an interesting game, actually.

Iowa at Rutgers to feature a punting showdown

SPORTS

September 22nd, 2022 by Ric Hanson

The Iowa-Rutgers game will feature two of the nations top punters and both hail from Australia. Adam Korsak from Rutgers is averaging just over 42 yards per punt with no touchbacks while Iowa’s Tory Taylor is averaging over 48 yards per punt and 13 have been downed inside the 20 yard line.

Good points on the turnovers inGoodCo......we have not helped ourselves and have left points on the field.

That is a good take....most certainly this offense would rather have a short field.....heck sometimes i wonder if they can even drive 10 feet in 4 downs.

Thankfully we got South instead of North....we probably lose another one to the Bison otherwise.

Just in case we have not said it enough..........Petras and the offense sucks monkey balls.

I think it's a bad stat given the competition. The total yardage is about 1800, which would be 600 ypg. I'd say, given that, it should be around 400 offense and 200 punting in those games. Against good competition, it should be, given Iowa's 50/50 run/pass philosophy of offense around 350/300 offense and 250/300 punting.
