Is there a Doctor in the House?

An M.D. on HN Forum, here?

Can a Doctor, or perhaps an Athletic Trainer explain how
Brandon Scherff can return from a knee injury in like 2 days, but
Darian Cooper's recovery takes about a full year??

OK, I'm not a doctor, however, I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express,
just last week.

GO freakin HAWKS !!

I cant remember the exact injuries but Scherrf's was something like a miniscus or cartilage tear. If it was not a bad tear they might have snipped some torn tissue off and then it was anti-inflammatory drugs to keep down swelling.

Cooper must have had a bad ligament tear, maybe something a lot worse.

I saw on another site that his knee needed full reconstruction and that recovery is in fact in doubt. I cannot confirm this but recall reading about it. Best I can do.

I think I've heard somewhere once that there is more than 1 possible kind of knee injury.

Oh man that sounds like an awful injury he had if that is the case. Way more problems than an ACL.

Well, you must have misunderstood what you heard. The fact is, all knee surgeries are exactly the same, regardless of the type or extent of the injury. They fix 'em all exactly the same way. Not only that, they all normally only take 2 days to heal. Darian Cooper must be some kind of sissy or something.

I forgot to add that I had a total knee replacement a couple years ago. I think it was because of a slight tear in my meniscus or something like that.

And all broken bones are the same even if the bone pierces the skin. Compound & hairline fractures are treated exactly the same & recovery time is identical!

I bumped my knee on a chair the other day and i limped for like 2 steps and was fine. It's ridiculous that someone can fully recover from their knee injury in 2 steps and others milk out their knee injuries for an entire year.

If Jake quits at the slightest sign of adversity like he did at Iowa, there's not a chance in hell he will make it through four years of medical school and four years of residency, plus a year of fellowship. That involves dealing with things not going your way every day. Perhaps a future chiropractor.

Do you realize Michigan's medical school is rater higher than Iowa?

I hate to get back on the OP topic and away from bashing Ruddock......but here goes.
I read some of the NFL combine discussion of Scherf and after checking his medical records they were impressed that he only missed one game after the surgery, he corrected them it was one practice. The article also said if he had taken pain killers he would have had to miss the next game.

Its not like the surgery made him 100%, he just gutted it out. From what I saw of Scherf after the injury he struggled the next few weeks getting beat on plays by average players and wasn't the same even at the end of the season, he had much more trouble with quicker players.

His run blocking has always been ahead of his pass blocking....But you could definitely tell he wasn't anywhere near 100% after the injury. It was a shame he got injured trying to prevent a TD on a pick six.

He actually got hurt while blocking, then ran all the way to the endzone while injured. The pick (i think it was actually a fumble) didn't have anything to do with the injury.
