Is Nebraska physical enough for the Big Ten?

Did I say I liked their defense? I said their defense is more physical than our defense this year. We gave up 44 points to Iowa State and should have given up 14 more in regulation to them.

Last I checked you had to take the good plays with the bad....If ISU doesn't covert a 3rd and 20, they score 17 pts.....

They scored 24 in regulation, and they scored 44 overall. It is what it is, you don't get to say we SHOULD HAVE given up 38 in regulation.

They are physical enough, their QB isn't good enough though...

Thats it in a nutshell. Taylor Martinez has average passing skills at best. And once Nebraska has to play catchup ball they are in trouble.
Wisconsin out matched them this year. They had no answer defensively for Wisconsin's offensive weapons. Wisconsin's defense had little trouble containing Martinez. Once he had to pass the ball the game was over for Nebraska.

Dude doesn't have average passing skills. Unless by average you mean high school. He will be lining up at receiver next year.

It doesn't matter how physical they are, but they're an average AT BEST b10 defense right now. By stats, they are the 11th best scoring defense in the conference.

The thing that stuck out to me is that their defenszive line is not reloaded. They looked very small. I realize Wisconsin sports the biggest line in college football, but even so I think Nebraska would have been undersized on the defensive front against a lot of teams. They didn't control gaps, and really didn't try to penetrate. They hand fought with Wisconsin and got blown into the second level. They should have been playing gaps and just try to be disruptive. It would have given some of their better players like David a chance to get after the back before he is 7 yards downfield. Poor gameplan all around, and Pelini is going to have to learn to recruit some lineman to play on defense.

this year? they haven't last i checked. hold on, let me look back at the schedule...nope, we haven't even played NW this season. so not sure NW has to do with this conversation

NW has beaten us like 6 of the last 7 years and we've been the more physical football team in most if not all of those years. That's what NW has to do with this conversation. Proof that the more physical team doesn't always win.

i'd say you're comparing apples to oranges here. nebraska WANTS to be that physical team that pounds you into submission. NW wants nothing to do with that style of offense

i should also add that i agree with you that THIS YEAR nebraska is probably more physical than iowa. just didn't agree with your argument about NW. obviously the more physical team doesn't always win otherwise teams wouldn't run the spread offense

+1.

Kalenberg, WTF are you talking about? NW and Iowa play completely different schemes. You can't substitue one for the other.

Nebraska is physical enough ... I think their three biggest problems are ...

1) Secondary can't defend the pass
2) Martinez throws like a girl ... which is also going to hurt their running game as opponents will start stacking 8 in the box.
3) Poor tackling

Kaldenberg needs to chiggity check himself before he wrecks himself... Iowa's defense is big, fast, and athletic... With Bernstine back at safety, we have arguably one of the best secondaries in the B1G... and yeah, our linebackers can hit.. I guess..
