Is Nebraska physical enough for the Big Ten?

Nebraska is physical enough ... I think their three biggest problems are ...

1) Secondary can't defend the pass
2) Martinez throws like a girl ... which is also going to hurt their running game as opponents will start stacking 8 in the box.
3) Poor tackling

Your points 1 & 3 contradict your initial statement:confused: Their corners need to be more physical at the line of scrimmage. Poor tackling is a direct result of not being physical.

We were told that B1G officials will not allow for physical pass defense against WRs.

And the poor tackling is a result of not wrapping up and driving through tackles. They hit, but don't do the right things fundamentally. Pathetic.

I wasn't aware of any B1G specific rules regarding how physical the corners can be at the line. Just watched a Prater interview talking about how he needs to be "extremely physical" at the line of scrimmage at PSU because of their athletic WR's. Tackling definitely has a lot of technique involved, but I still think physicality plays a factor as well. Iowa has problems wrapping up right now as well. Just seems like a more physical presence translates into better tackling.

Apparently, our new DB coach mentioned that the B1G officials would not allow our DBs to "ride" WRs nearly as hard as Big 12 officials would, fwiw. Not sure if true or not.

Another thing about our defense, they have been caught out of position a lot, which makes the tackling even worse. :(

If they face teams that are disciplined defensively, I don't know how they rely on the option and win consistently. If your DBs can cover effectively, chances are you don't have to worry about them getting beat on precision passes while the rest of your D plays the run. Their defense didn't look terrible, RW made some plays happen that would be hard for other teams to match.

Right, option football doesn't ever win championships.

Signed,

Oklahoma's wishbone &
Nebraska's national title teams.

Your guys' defense has plenty of talent. It's just a matter of adjusting to teams you've never played before or haven't played in a while. You also played one of the best offensive Wiscy teams I've seen recently. Should have a good shot against a bad looking Buckeye team.
