Is Nate Stanley The Next John Elway?

Is that a pretty close comparison? Nate is a pretty big QB with a strong arm, not the most mobile. I kind of thinks he moves a lot like Elway in the pocket.

Who would you compare Nate Stanley to?

Yup, big Ben. Probably a little more athletic then Ben. Nice part is Ben was really smart about when to run.
I haven't really watched as much pro ball as I used to, but I remember, if Ben ran, he knew exactly how far he had to go and almost always got it, then avoided the hit.

I think he has Elway's arm strength, Brady's awareness, Peyton Manning's ability to trick a defense pre-snap, Favre's grit and leadership, Drew Brees's accuracy, Steve Young's elusiveness, and Joe Montana's big game mentality. I've been watching film all summer and I can't find a weakness.

as a Steelers fan, yes, Big Ben. up until Elway blew out his knees, he was actually really mobile and some good running and scrambling abilities.

and he wears Brett Favre's #4. it's all covered.

As long as he can get the laces out better than Marino, then he will be an all around quarterback. Just his backup will still be better.

Physically he's pretty close to what Ben Rothlisburger was in college. I think Stanleys pocket presence needs to improve and maybe is reluctance to run needs to be curbed. There's times he should step up and take the 4-6 yards instead of throwing the ball away. If he continues to improve the skys the limit of how good he can be. He's got the tools

That's easy for us to say while watching, but harder when you're the guy who has a good chance of getting lit up by a 250 pound LB. I think a lot of guys are focusing more on longevity - Brady is a prime example of a guy who has taken care of his body rather than going for those 5 yard runs. They ain't worth it in the grand scheme.

There are a lot of signs that Nate may have a breakout season in 2018. Possibly maybe even an all big ten season.

But if the offense struggles again against Wisconsin, Minn and NW, the fans may turn ugly fast.

Well sure there's that. I'm not asking him to drop his shoulder into any hard charging LBs. Run smart get down or out of bounds for sure. He's had a pension for holding on to the ball instead of using his legs to prolong plays or run at all. He does great on designed roll outs and some more of those would be nice too. Our Oline wasn't the greatest at giving him a perfect pocket last yr and being able to move within the pocket more and take a running lane now and then is a smart thing to do too. But as you said as long as your not taking hits

He's a poor man's Big Ben. A good player but you have to remember that Big Ben was something like the #12 overall pick the year he was drafted. Stanley won't go close to that high. Hope I'm wrong though.

Not saying you're wrong - but Stanley's first year starting in the B1G > Big Ben's fist year at Miami of Ohio IMO

Seriously, Stanley compared to Elway and Big Ben??? How about we just compare him to the long list of other Iowa quarterbacks and how they did at the next level.

He’s not Russell Wilson by any means, but he’s nowhere near as slow as Roethlisberger.

Roethlisbeger avoids a lot of sacks but he does it because of size and strength. He looks and moves like a Wookie on Xanax.

Stanley, while slowish, would eat Ben’s lunch in speed drills during his prime.

Ben ran a 4.75 40 at the combine. Age and injuries have made him look like a Wookie on Xanax. I would bet Stanley is running in the 4.7-4.9 range right now.

People forget Ben had offers to play lower level D-1 basketball. He is a pretty good athlete, he has just been lazy about taking care of his body.
