Is Marble still dinge up or just the focus of opposing teams D

He's just not as good as he or Fran seems to think he is. Not bad, but not capable of imposing his will on a good defense.

Neither, but what is bother some is when he had a chance to win the game all the things he used to his advantage last season against smaller players, he didn't on that drive or any other time.

His length is an advantage and he can back down smaller defenders and then go to the lane or baseline. It is something that makes me question why he has the ball in that situation. Also, he has yet to prove he is capable of taking over a game and also controlling any SF in the Big Ten.

The same things that he needed to fix after last season, he still hasn't. 3-pt shooting, better defense and consistent mid-range game. Still none of those things are showing up, in non-conference yes, but not in conference play where Iowa needs it the most.

Marble and White are good 3rd options. When they're the 1st or 2nd option you have a 8-10, maybe 9-9 team.

This is a better team than last year, but not a sea change.

I would like him to take the ball to the rim more often than settling for pull up jumpers.

He isn't capable of doing so right now, not even against Smurfs like Ronnie Johnson.

Definitely isn't capable of beating a decent SF in the Big Ten at this point. His best offense is to hit a couple mid-range shots and then use the pump fake to get to the rim, other than that he is just a guy on the floor.

He is battling turf toe that he suffered while also spraining his ankle in practice before the MSU game. He's not been the same with the ball in his hands since...that, and yes he is a point of emphasis for the defense.

Of course he is going to be game planed for. Who else on Iowa do you really need to plan for? You have to game plan for play makers or great post players. Marble is Iowa best play maker which still does not make him a great player.

Marble seemed to flurish the most when he was matched up with PG last year and had the ball in his hands with the ability to make plays. He used his height/lenght to his advantage against players. With him having to try to create against 6'4 - 6'6 wing players he loses that height/lenght advantage. His turf toe definitely doesn't help but he was never really quick before the injury.

Iowa desperately needs an explosive player at the wing position or they need to pass the ball much better to get offensive looks more often. Iowa's not going to win many battles when teams force them to try to make plays as the shot clock expires. That is what really separates the top teams who are more consistent. They just have a player or two that can make something happen when they have to.

I certainly hope that's the case. Has he or anyone close to him affirmed that the injury is still limiting him, even off the record?

His performance last year makes me think he's got another level we're not seeing.

Answer this for me honestly:

When has Marble been able to take over a game or have success when he wasn't matched up against a PG that he had the advantage over with his size and length?

Please cite an example because I am struggling thinking of one.

What SF that has shown some ability to defend okay has Marble been able to have a big game against?

If he is injured, why is he out there? Iowa played well without him against MSU and actually it seemed to make some other guys play with some urgency.

Do you see Marble being a guy with the ability to win games down the stretch?

Iowa's halfcourt offense makes your eyes bleed. One guy sitting in the block and 4 others dribbling on the perimeter and handing off to the other. No cuts to the basket, nothing that moves a defense. Marble is just a product of that. Iowa creates zero space in a defense. So easy to defend.

In the Hawks 4 conference losses that Marble has played in he is 9/45....20% from the floor.

In the Hawks 2 conference wins Marble is 8/16....50% from the floor.

Marble has double digit shot attempts in all of the Hawks losses except MSU and Michigan. He didnt play against MSU.

He needs to stop shooting so damn much.

RDM is a bit of a mystery to me. I would guess JM is right about the turf toe/ankle injuries...turf toe benches some darn good NFL players every year. However, it seems to me that his ball handling is holding him back. He looks, I think too often, out of sorts dribbling the ball. I noticed Purdue put a much smaller guy on Marble and RDM had a heck of a time making moves on him. Probably scouted the weakness I mentioned above. I have noticed this in other games, as well. His shooting has been inconsistent...we will just have to wait and see if it improves. In the meantime, he is often going to be put in the position of being our "go to" guy when the game is on the line.

Iowa is and always will be, at least until after next season, better when they play like they do not have a "go to" guy and just play basketball, ball movement is their biggest asset.

What happened to Marbles step back jumper. It seemed an effective tool for him earlier in the year. I don't see him trying that much these days. He seems much more intent on driving to the paint and trying to draw a foul. It isn't working for him.

Must be the turf toe

He drilled a 3 against Wisky late with this, and I thought he tried at least one yesterday. He was 2/11 in each of the last 2 games so chances are if he tried a step back jumper it did not go in.

Has anyone thought that maybe he just isn't that good? He's obviously our best player but I don't know anyone who realistically thinks he will be a NBA player besides Fran. Fran has a history of talking up our players, i.e. Josh Ogelsby being the best shooter he's ever coached and Woodbury being a difference maker this year.
