Is KF the Big Ten Coach of the Year as of right now?

Kirk would certainly be my choice, of course

Somehow the Lads have gelled into a threat on offense which gives the
defense time to recover on the bench which makes them more dangerous
in the fourth quarter

Deacon has shown his capability which is a very nice surprise, perhaps we
weren't wrong to be so enthused by his first game

The Captain and his assistants have the team running on all cylinders

To be in the race, we would have to win out. If we do, I fail to see any reason he would not be coach of the year. Think about, with all the adversity,
he has not lost this team’s focus and loyalty. That alone is enough to recognize this amazing season as special.

But, the shitty offense is his fault. Yes, there have been injuries, but the offense did not have a pulse before any of that. The offense sucks because he made a very bad coaching decision.

If you set your own house on fire while cooking meth, then run in to rescue your kids, you don't get a heroism medal from the city....

The offense was doomed when Cade went down in August. That dude was simply not ready to play and it impaired the entire offense. We banked the whole damned thing on Cade being the man and that fact that he went down and we should be 9-1 but for the most egregiously bad officiating call I've ever seen in my life speaks volumes to how good Kirk is, and even to how good Brian is.

Let us not forget that Kirk landed the best defensive player in the portal, Higgins, and probably the best non-QB offensive player in All through the portal. The dude deserves coach of the year, he had me optimistic before the season and he's on pace to potentially win 10 games with the backup QB and a litany of injuries on offense.

Can an assistant win this award? If so, Phil Parker should win. Without him, Iowa may only have 2 or 3 wins.

If Ohio St. beats Michigan, Ryan Day will get it. He just will. Even though he has Harrison, Jr. and a gazillion 5 stars, the sleazeball dying his beard will get it.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. If he takes down Michigan, the voters will have a hard time not giving it to him. Braun is more deserving though all things considered. What he has accomplished this season is unreal.

KF and the assistants (and I will include BF in that) did have a stellar off-season. I don't think anyone on this board was critical of the offseason acquisitions and Iowa being aggressive in the portal. Iowa shored up QB, TE, OL, and LB. Big time.

Regarding Cade, yes all the eggs were in that basket. But, Iowa did bring in the Deacon as well, which while mixed results, he has led Iowa to a number of wins and obviously he is trending better after last week. I would say most teams hoping to compete for conference championships would be pretty devastated if their first stringer goes down for the season.

Do all of those player moves offset the terrible decision to bring back BF? Maybe. I argue on this board all the time that its about the Jimmy's and the Joes. And, if KF had gone out and hired a competent OC, where would we be? About the same. Probably 9-1 (with the Minny game going the other way with even a hint of offense).

Again, I am torn on this whole thread. Let's see how the next three weeks turn out. If KF wins the next two and is at least competitive in Indy, there is a damn strong argument.

I am actually rooting for Michigan to beat OSU only because it will be great to see an undefeated team's coach not get the award. Can't give it to a cheater who has only coached in half the games.

If NW, Iowa and OSU all win out, what's more impressive?

7-5 NW
10-2 Iowa
12-0 OSU

Given how stacked the East is, and they played ND, you gotta give the nod to blackbeard. The other two are worthy of consideration, but that is a hell of a gauntlet OSU had to run.

He gets an award for beating a bunch of shitty teams he should beat?

This entire thread encapsulates the joke of this program.

Haters gonna hate.

I get that the schedule is not murderers row, but as another thread has pointed out, Iowa is one of a handful of programs in the country that consistently wins 8-10 games a year. That aint easy no matter who is on your schedule. Its certainly not a joke.

Also, if this is the standard, OSU and Georgia have been favored in every game, so.....

Some truth to that...except your analogy falls apart with the meth cooking. KFz isn't doing anything illegal/immoral. (though some might say Iowa's offense is a "crime")

I look at the fact that he hasn't lost the team or the locker room despite the imbalance. That's the most impressive thing IMHO. The team has stuck together despite the obvious problems.

That is the thing, tho. You lose Jack Campbell, the guy who kept everything pointing in one direction and you replace him with Jay Higgins, who has a completely different personality, yet the beat keeps going on. It really does rally around Kirk and his ability to have everyone buy in.
