Is Jok a starter by year end?

I think Clemmons can run faster, jump higher score in the lane better and play defense better then Mike. Not by a mile though I don't think he's head and shoulders better. But I give him the edge in all those things. I think Mike is a better ball handler runs the offense better and over all shooter then Clemmons so far. I just think Clemmons can bridge that gap more likely then Mike can the other way. I could be wrong just my 2 cents.

I don't think Gesell had too many plays like this..

Anthony Clemmons Steal and Dunk - YouTube

In the black and gold blow out last year, gesell had a reverse 2 handed dunk on a fast break.

That's not the discussion we were having. The issue here is one person is saying that Clemmons is going to take PT from Gesell and point guard in the future, while I feel Gesell will get more time because he's a much better shooter, and this team needs shooting...in the future.

You said Clemmons wasnt a good shooter. Nobody shot well. So you know that others are going to be better next year but Clemmons wont?

I agree with the health concern...hoping it doesn't become 1 thing after another. Clemmons is built more for the physical style of the Big 10. I'm not saying Gesell doesn't have what it takes because I definitely think he does. I hope he gets healthy and stays healthy.

I have not seen Jok play much yet. Is there any report on his ability to handle the basketball?? At times I worry about this teams ball handling but I might just be looking for somthing. Love the height and the ability to rebound the ball. Love Love Love rebounds.

I think the decision to not play woody at the end of games cost us a couple wins.

IDK hes gets in foul trouble a lot. Hes not a huge scoring threat. He had problems with guys getting in behind him and then giving up and 1s. I think fran used him well. He did very well for a FR center. However there are a lot of guys Id rather have in at the end of a game. This year could be different though.

He also gets rebounds. Something that killed us bad at the end of those close games.

I think Woody was used about right last yr. He would have been a free throw shooting liability late in games and as good as he did on D I think later in games when refs seem to call things tighter he would have been committing fouls. I think he'll play more and be better this year all around. Not sure he'll be a late game guy because of his free throw shooting. But when coach plays situational offense defense subbing I can certainly see him playing on D late.

I agree that if they are intentionally fouling at the end of the game you have to get him out. If not I think he should have been in there. Our defense was noticeably worse when he was out late.

I'm right there with ya. I think maybe his conditioning and foul trouble were possible reasons why coach didn't put him in more of those situations too. He was also a true frosh. Just experience wise maybe coach didn't trust him in a certain situations just yet. I haven't heard coach elaborate on any of this really. Those reasons along with free throw shooting just makes sense. I see him playing more this yr though so we'll see.

His 33% shooting in league play lead me to believe he is not a good shooter. Did you paradoxically arrive at a different conclusion given the data at hand?

You said the team cant afford to sit shooters. So back to my question.....who is Clemmons keeping off the court that was shooting better?

I agree that the reasons he sat out makes sense. But after seeing how those close games played out, it seemed like we would have been better off with him in there. I assume he will finish most games this year.

I don't think Fran cares who starts the game and neither do I. He will play 10 or 11 players each game. And who starts and plays more minutes will depend on match-ups and how effective each player is in that game. Either way, Jok is going to get a lot of May's minutes and probably some of Ogelsbys.

If JO keeps this shooting up then nobody will be taking his minutes.

I already answered that question.

Okay, well let's operate under the assumption that Gesell wouldn't average 40 mpg, if Clemmons weren't on the team, and would have to sit at some point. Who is Clemmons taking minutes from in that scenario? Oglesby?

FTR, Gesell shot 37% in conference play, so it's not like he was significantly better than Clemmons. Better, yes, but not so much better that it's a travesty to give Clemmons significant minutes.
