Is it bad?

Yeah on their forums their all saying the refs didn't give them the game but I think a non-partial viewer would agree they definitely had a huge role in it.

Had last season been the first time Iowa got totally hosed then I would agree...however that is not the case.

There was only a 10 foul difference. There was a 24 free throw difference. 10 foul difference favoring the home team isn't that bad especially when there was a 2 technical foul difference.

Another big difference was 3 point shooting. Iowa 1-12, UNI 11-21, that's 30 points. So stop crying about the fouls and free throws difference and move on. It wouldn't have matter at the end of the season, it didn't prevent Iowa from getting into the NCAA Tournament. I don't hear Iowa fans complaining about the fact that in games played at CHA Iowa usually makes more free throws than the opponents attempt.

So UNI attempts twice as many 3's yet gets 24 more FT attempts? You still want to argue ILHawk?

Yes, it just gets so old about ref complaining. The poor little Hawks are the most misunderstood and abused players in America. Your point makes my point even more so. It was about fundamentals and maybe later the refs getting tired of Fran. Notice how much better behaved he is this year. Granted they are doing better, but they are also doing better on fundamentals. Adam flails, but his flails are so slow it doesn't matter.

Also a lot of calls were not on shots. Did you bother to look at the free throw percentage of 88% v 33%? That would have put things up to 3 more attempts. In that game Iowa did not have a true pt guard like this year. Last year Marble was only a 1 direction player.

Anthony James is an aggressive offensive ball player. He creates fouls. Notice who had most of the Iowa free throws. There is a correlation.

Iowa stood around a lot last year. This year not so much, but the addition of the 2 guards helps that. We still have several main players who cannot create fouls.

It's fundamentals. Why do so many referees hate Iowa so much and cause so many problems? Been going on since Lute Olson. Terrible.....

Last year the refs didn't decide that game, Iowa lost as your pointed out with pretty clear analysis and FACT. However, it was a poorly officiated game, that was pretty clear but it didn't decide that game, not even close.

Okay, I don't like to complain about officiating, however, did you watch the game last season?

Iowa went on a run to cut the deficit to 5, iirc, and then got how many technical fouls in the next minute and the game was over.

I agree that Iowa stood around a lot last year, but when you say FT% of 88 to 33, when did Iowa get their first FT attempt? In the 2nd half down by 20 pts.

Your fundamentals argument is perplexing because I don't think you play in the BIG without some semblance of fundamentals. The officiating had a major effect on the game last season, as I was watching it, the refs became the focal point of the game by all, including the announcers. That isn't the way it is supposed to be.

I want to reiterate my first statement, I rarely think officiating has an effect on the game, players should adjust to the game, unless it is inconsistent, then you better have a bench. Iowa didn't have a bench and it was a poorly officiated game and I will leave it at that.

Keep in mind, the overall series is 34-9 in Iowa's favor, how many has UNI won at Iowa? I remember multiple games Iowa losing there and the officiating was poor at best. There are certain places that you go as a coach and know the officiating is going to be bad, either you accept it, or don't go there if they aren't in your conference. As poor as the officiating is in the BIG, at least the coaches know what their style is...going to UNI with a history of not knowing who those guys are, or their style is easy to get caught up in what they are calling. Again, there is a history at UNI and that is a fact.

One would have to know very little about basketball to not see that game was just something the officials determined. In my 40+ years of watching basketball I have never seen such a fiasco. It got to be out of hand and the fans of UNI rubbed it in with taunts while yucking it up. Iowa would have won that game easily if it wasn't for the antics. Just rewatching that video above makes me sick. Boo to the UNI fans for being so ridiculous. Congrats on the win... but to say that was good officiating and well deserved is out of line.

It would be much more understandable if it wasn't so grating. About EVERY Loss is blamed on refs around here. It stems going back to Lutes days.

A yes a team that loses to Campbell has a real struggle with fundamentals. We were terrible.

Things are looking better.

Marble has seen the most improvement in fundamentals (not just because he shot so well). His fundamentals were just absolutely terrible last year.

Yes, since you are mad at the refs which UNI had no control over at all, it's very idiotic and bad. They had NOTHING to do with those calls. Fans like you make all Iowa fans look stupid.

With your logic if you get cancer you will blame the doctor.

Did you dig the blatant flops throughout the game that the refs honored. I can see a flop or two in a game but almost every other play is beyond the pale and in my opinon unsportsmanlike. Imagine that, sportsmanship......

The team and fan attitude over the worst refereed game I have ever seen changed my opinion of UNI forever.

There was a lot of bad blood during that game and it will remain for a long time, never forgotten by many Hawk fans......

It is what it is......

:)

In my years of watching college basketball and my beloved Hawks, I think that is the only game that I ever thought that was lost because of officiating. Yeah there have been poorly officiated games, but typically it is both ways.

It bothers me when people continue to harp on refs when a lot of the time, had Iowa just done what they were supposed to it wouldn't matter anyway. There are going to be bad calls and bad officials, it is just part of it. Like I said before though, that game last year is the only game that I can recall in all of my time of watching Iowa that they lost because of the officials.

There have been NCAA tournament games that I felt have been one-sided that have cost teams who were better. That is another story and not relevant to this.

So if one team is coached to have hands to the side or swipe at the ball from inside out and the other swipes in at the ball and has hands flailing, you would expect calls to be even? That would be poor officiating. Having feet planted and having hands down as opposed to maybe having feet planted but hands flailing is equal? Don't think so.

UNI took Iowa to school on fundamentals that game. Get over it.

Guess you didn't watch the game at UNI last year. It is difficult to get any momentum going when the refs call a foul against Iowa almost every time down the floor. Every one of the blatant ticky tacky flops were honored by the refs. The Hawks didn't have a chance to practice their fundamentals. If you call flopping quality fundamentals, perhaps you don't know what you are talking about......

Easy Jack, its okay, just settle down...:p

Yeah, thanks for the advice, Sportstalent......

We won today and that is the news......

:)

Yes Jack Iowa won today, the attrition is over...thank God.

How exciting is it to see a full roster on the sideline and then also to know that Peter Jok/Jarrod Uthoff will be playing for Iowa next season?

How exciting is it that Iowa has a legit shot at the NCAA tournament?

How exciting is it that Iowa will have Woodbury, White, Gesell, Clemmons, Oglesby, Ingram, Gabe, Meyer, Uthoff for the next three years?

Iowa basketball is back to respectable again and will truly be back once they get to the NCAA tournment...good to be a Hawk fan again.

I had forgotten how poor and one-sided the officiating was in that game. UNI flopped more than a team of Italian soccer players.

Glad Fran & Co got some revenge yesterday.

I is very nice to have the confidence that we can win almost every game and Peter Jok will make an immediate impact. He is as smooth and skilllful with the ball as anyone I have seen in a long time. He reminds me of Jamal Crawford at Michigan years ago......
