Is Iowa's run fueling the firing of coaches?

Why would LSU get rid of Miles who is averaging right at 10 wins a year I heard? That is crazy. I know the coaches have big egos as do the big dollar boosters but not long ago LSU's head coach was Jerry Dinardo and that didnt work out too well. Texas ousted Mack Brown and really stepped in it.

Perhaps these fan bases and ADs and big boosters see Iowa at 11-0 and jNW small private elite school at 9-2 and they think they need a change.

Yeah, LSU is an above avg QB away from being 11-0 or 10-1 but overall they have great talent. Let's see if they get rid of Miles what happens to their program. Wisconsin didnt want Bielema to pay his assistants more so BB bolted and in the end how might that affect Wisky.

Anyone think the hawks run and rising from last years bad ending exerts some pressure on these coaching changes?
 
No.

If they are trying to copy Iowa's 2015-16 success after the misery of 2014 ('12, '13), wouldn't they all keep their coaches an extra year?
 
More likey at how Harbough's success has panned out so quickly if anything. Although i dont personally believe that...amazing of the short term memory for most schools of how hard it is to find a new coach to come in and make everything to work out to be successful on a regular basis.

Didn't he win a championship in 2007?

Anyway, Miles departure isn't related to Iowa. But, the OP isn't misguided to suggest Iowa's fortunes can impact others. I mean, Nebraska last year basically said out loud that "almost" losing to Iowa was pathetic enough to be the final straw on top of the Bo Pelini camel. IMO it's not so much that coaches are being fired cuz liddle ol Iowa is winning, it's that Iowa being 11-0 makes other programs take a harder look at where they are actually headed and where they would like to be headed. Now if you don't buy that (and it's fair to say most of you won't) then I think it is very realistic to say that athletic departments have insane pressure on them in the era of title 9 and stratospheric salaries. In simple terms, every FBS school has to milk the football/basketball cash cow or heads are gonna roll.

EDIT: coaches only have themselves to blame. Miles played in 2 NCGs while at LSU and he is a very good coach IMO. But every time a coach has a good year his agent makes outrageous demands and ADs (except for Alvarez apparently) usually buckle. Which means you better keep winning or else.

I agree with your general sentiment here.

But I still think that what Iowa does has zero impact on how other schools evaluate their programs.

It would be like if Arizona State produced a random 11-0 season and made the top 5. It's great for their fans and the program and for college football die-hards who live to debate rankings and controversy, but really nobody outside of the state cares. Iowa wouldn't look at an 11-0 Arizona State season and think "gee, if they can do it, we should be able to! Let's fire Ferentz! Or let's at least evaluate the program harder!"

Maybe if Iowa State produced a spectacular season, and Iowa was really down, I could see the athletic department basing a deeper evaluation juxtaposed to ISU's success. But for a program like LSU, which isn't intertwined whatsoever in competition or recruiting with Iowa, what we do doesn't matter to them.

The expectations at LSU are a lot higher than at Iowa. Rumors were swirling that Miles was probably going to be fired after the loss to Arkansas, the loss to Ole Miss was the icing on the cake.

One would think the situation at Iowa would show why you stick with a coach, not have a revolving door. The team we play on Friday is a good example of what can happen if you have a revolving door. But LSU has deep pockets, I am sure they will attract a big name.
 
So maybe a bunch of teams just promote some guy related to the head coach and call him Running Game Coordinator next season and hope to have a top ten ranking or playoff run?
