Is Iowa on Verge of Commit #2?

Todd Brommelkamp at VoiceoftheHawkeyes.com has tweeted a few times this week that Iowa may be closing in on their second verbal commitment, and that player is Malik Golden.

He's a wide receiver athlete from Cheshire Academy in Connecticut and his Scout.com profile says he is 6-1/185. As you can see on his video below, he lines up at receiver and also takes hand offs out of the backfield.

The links to the items on Golden from Brommelkamp are behind a pay wall, but he did speak with Rob Howe of HawkeyeInsider.com last week and in that write up did not indicate an imminent decision, however he will be camping at Iowa this weekend.

Any idea what kind of 40 time he runs? Some of those defenders look like they are standing still when he goes by them!
 
Rivals has his 40 at 4.52 seconds. Also shows offers from Akron, Bryant, Stony Brook, Towson and Tulane. 3-star prospect according to Rivals.
 
I think of Spievey when I watch the film. Good size and quicks to play corner in Iowa's scheme.
 
Anyone else think its a bad idea to have the coaches and the prospects' cell numbers at the beginning of that clip?

Yes!
We have not gotten going on the recruiting front yet but I really like what I see on video of alot of these kids. The two kids coming in from Nashville this weekend look like real good athletes.
 
Just gave Malik a call. He likes the Hawks but not quite ready to commit. I told him I'd check back in a couple weeks. Seems like a good kid.
 
Iowa hasn't had a kid with that kind of stride in as long as I can remember. I don't mean speed, I mean runningly form. Had a kid like that in my high school. He always looked like he had another gear that he was holding until it was absolutely necessary. They key was that he could run faster than everyone, while maintaining body control. The kid I played with had two brothers who all had high D1 offers, but all ended up becoming mega rich pro-surfers.
 
Looks like a lot of bad defense on the other teams part. He did stand out compared to the other players though.

Miami and Florida have a bunch of guys that run like that every year.
I'll take Batey,Edmiston,Mabon,Severin,Thomas and Golden for Ath,S WR and CB and figure out who fits best where later.
 
Maybe I am in the minority, but I honestly thought he looked really slow. Is he set on WR? I would say a safety, but I am not a coach.
