Is Fridays game with ISU the biggest in Frans tenure at Iowa

I have a gut feeling that we will be very surprised at how easily the Hawks win this game. They found their toughness at UNC and I don't think they'll be an easy out for anyone going forward.

Iowa will dominate the boards against Iowa State. Ames can't rebound much.

Isu doesn’t apply much ball pressure which has served our offense well the past few matchups. Their frontcourt depth is pretty thin, and I’d expect us to have an advantage on the boards. Clones are tough at Hilton, but at this point chemistry can really be an issue on the road (See 2012). I see a 5 or 6 point Iowa win.

Clones can shred the nets. If it turns into a shootout, we gots trouble. If Iowa concentrates on pounding it inside to woodbury & Olaseni..........we gotta chance.

aaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnddddddd....change subject quickly to football in a basketball thread. tavernhoks are so predictable.

Xplaning Clown trolls to everyone isn't changing the subject. It is calling a spade a spade. Now go on with your next Clown troll, Clown.

Iowa State is not a deep team at all. They go 8 guys deep and that's it. They are also very small. Niang is 6'8", Edozie logs about 8 minutes a game and is also 6'8"...the rest of their team is 6'6" or shorter. Iowa has 5 guys who log minutes who are 6'8" or taller. You would think the obvious answer for Iowa would be to pound the ball inside and try to get them into foul trouble. Iowa should also dominate the boards.

The problem for Iowa is I'm not sure they have a guy who can really guard Niang effectively. I'm not even sure who they'll put on him to start the game...White? Uthoff? The UNLV kid is good too but he's no Marcus Paige. Clemmons will have his hands full again

I don't think this is the biggest game for Fran. I think its his biggest game so far this season, but that's about it. I think the spread will be very close, maybe even a pickem. Before the season started I picked Iowa to beat ISU and then lose to UNI so I guess I have to stick with that.

The more I think about this game the more I like the match up and we're only a couple realistic things from going right from winning by 10 or more I think(kiss of death comment, now we'll lose by 15.)

I think we can defend them with our length and size and it wouldn't be completely surprising for us to hit some open shots at some point.

It's a clown thing. Check out every football thread at cyfan and fast freddy gets brought up. When clowns can't compete with the likes of Kansas they know when to start making things up.

NCAA game against Tennessee was Fran's biggest game at Iowa and we lost it. No other single game makes or breaks your season in college BB like the NCAA tournament games.

Whilte I agree that Fridays game is HUGE. But you're right, the NCAA game is the biggest game in your tenure and we lost. Every game in the season is important.

The games last year don't matter at this point. Fran is back and every win will help get closer to a bid at the end of the season. Beating ranked teams will help. They all add up.

FIFY. Play-in games are especially crucial because then everyone isn't going around the next year making fun of you for thinking you were in the tournament when really it was a play in game and you weren't in the actual tournament.

Find something better to do with your time

This is not the most important game of Frans career. This is a chance to get a very solid win and get a little more talk about Iowa nationally. Which helps with recruiting as long as you can keep growing throughout the year.

The question is how effective can Iowa break the zone. Uthoff and Jok need to continue if not improve on the three. I have lost hope in Josh (it’s to the point you just feel bad for him) hopefully Uhl will find his shot and be a real third threat. Ellingson was brought in to be that 3 pt threat but as we saw last game his D is horrendous and needs major work. He’s nowhere close to be ready to play in this type of game. It’s been some time where Iowa has had more than one consistent shooter to bust a zone.

I am curious to find out what Oglesby role becomes by the end of the year. Does he find his shot and becomes more reliable?

This. I would add the NIT title game against Baylor. Win it, you get some recognition the following year, even for the NCAA. Lose it, no one remembers your name.

It is for me for this year so far...Unfortunately, I'm still stuck on the incompetent football program. Since we may now need IOWA to be a BBall school for possibly the next decade...games like this are the swing point for picking up semi-bandwagon bball fans like myself. Of course, with each big early season win brings more eyeballs to the program sooner in the season, which makes for a longer (in the enjoyable way) season than just March for avg semi-basketball fans like myself.

The win at North Carolina will resonate more with the media figures that a win at home vs Iowa State. It's obviously big to get the win here, but nothing is truly lost if iowa loses friday. I know it feels big to us because it's our instate rival, but outside of the state, it means much less. At worst, gotta split with isu and uni. I feel better about ISU at home, honestly. 71-68 hawks

I have to disagree with you a little here. ISU has been gaining quite a bit of national recognition over the last 3 years or so. The win at NC will hold more weight nationally if the Hawks can defend their home court and beat another top 15 team.

At this point right now ISU is more respected nationally then NC is, because the Hawks beat them at home. If ISU wins on Friday it just shows the experts “yeah we were right how do you let the Hawks beat you in your house? Iowa is still not a solid threat and loss at home to ISU.â€￾
