Is Fitz Going Pro?

Just type the name of any charity into the Google machine along with the words "Form 990." Then scroll a few pages to find the compensation section.

Yes, but where does charity or non profit come in to play with Fitz? He's paid a salary plus bonuses to coach football.

He is employed by a non-profit. Every one of them has to file a 990. This nonsense the media says about "derp we don't know how much he makes because he works for a private school" is nonsense because journalists, other than Rob Howe, are morons. Sure, the information is dated and backward looking, but once a guy has been somewhere for a few years, it is easy to tell what he made.

1985 since we won it outright.

I was in kindergarten and I'm 40 years old.
1985 is likely one of the best NFL teams ever assembled. That Miami loss had a bad smell to it...................... as in fixed. The bears absolutely destroyed everyone and SOME HOW managed to lose to a mediocre Miami team. That didn’t just happen. At the time the NFL decided that preserving Miam’s sole undefeated record was important at the time.

NFL teams are definitely kicking the tires and gauging interest. Bears just won, so Matt Nagy might keep his gig. Wouldn't be surprised if the Bear job is the only one he is really considering.

Zero chance.

Why does everyone seem to think nfl head coaching jobs are better in any way?
1) Pay
2) Prestige
3) No more talking to complete idiots on weekly call-in shows and the rubber chicken fan rah-rah circuit
4) No more schmoozing big ticket asshole donors.
5) Personnel. Which would you rather do: fly and drive all over to Hard Knob, Any State, and sit in some prospect’s living room and lie to his parents about how much you care for their son, the high values of your program, the great education your school offers, how you’re proud of the fine young men you’ve sent into the world, the immediate playing time their son will see; or sit in some fancy ass conference room to review tape and intel on prospects in the next draft?

Sounds like an easy choice to me.

You know who gave the Bears fits in 1985?

Tampa Bay. That's who.

But Chicago cleared their two games with the Bucs off their schedule early, before the 46 Defense kicked into gear. Once they beat San Francisco in mid October they really started to hit their stride. With the exception of the Dolphin game they ran roughshod over everything in their path the rest of the way.

BTW Miami wasn't mediocre that year. They played in the AFC conference championship game, and some have said they wanted no part of a Bears rematch.

1) Fitzgerald made over $5M this year. He made more than 22 NFL coaches.

2) He’s got plenty of prestige where he’s at. He’s basically worshipped at NW and gets tons of respect in college football. NFL is a meat grinder and he knows almost no college HCs go into the pros and succeed.

3) Not sure where this one’s coming from. Media are way worse in the pros and fans are brutal. You’re still doing just as many if not more pressers with people who want you run out of town after one losing season.

4) Again, he doesn’t have to schmooze anybody and I guarantee you the donors he’s dealing with are the ones doing the ass kissing. Same as Ferentz, they worship the ground that dude walks on.

5) So you think he’d want to go from running the program exactly how he wants and having unlimited control to being in a room full of entitled drama queen players who make more money than he does? Guys who’ll trash you in the media about playing time, coaching decisions, guys who’ll hold out of training camp over money?

It does sound like an easy choice. Fitz is guaranteed 7 figures for the rest of his working career at NW. He’s from Chicago, played college there, and he’s winning games. He could coach for 15 more years and then be AD, and make waaaay more money than he would in the NFL. Remember, all it takes is a couple losing seasons in the pros and all of a sudden you’re uprooting your family every 18 months looking for a job as a position coach on some MAC school in the boonies.

You can list all the reasons you want but none of us know what Fitz aspirations are. Yes he’s set, yes he’s got a cushy job, but some coaches have an ego and are super competitive. He’s financially set so I doubt money will stop him from doing what he wants.

It‘s also possible this is all smoke.
