Is a camp Randall visit worth it?

For post-game, most of the hotels near campus have decent bars, as well, so safety isn't a factor. West beltway, hotel across from ice hockey stadium, has a pretty good sports bar for a business-oriented hotel.

Been there just once. Had a decent tailgate there, but the walk to the stadium was like running a gauntlet.
1. Just don't make eye contact and
2. For God's sake don't yell anything back at them because if you're wearing Black&Gold YOU WILL GET PROFANITIES YELLED AT YOU and YOU WILL GET TAUNTED in Madison.
I've seen first-hand 4-5 frat-boy pukes come out of their yard they were tailgating in, drunk off their ass and ready to fight while they surrounded a few Iowa fans who just walking to the game.
Why? Because the Iowa fans flipped some shit right back at 'em - that's all... but that was enough to set them off.
Nice old stadium with good character, but if you go just be sure to have buddies with you, don't give them any reason for trouble and you'll be fine.

I've done Madison, it can be fun. Great place to party. BUT....While individual experiences may vary, it's definitely the place in the B1G where you're most likely to get abused if you're wearing black and gold.

I'm going for the game this year. We've won every away game I've been to, so I hope to keep that streak alive.

Granted, I've only been to 3 away games (not counting bowls) so it's not a large sample size, but every little bit helps.

Dude - my road game record is the exact opposite. Maybe I should sit this one out.

I would never yell at opposing fans. No clue my people who aren’t drunk do this.

Lol at northwestern. What did you do? Criticize a Supreme Court decision?

LOVE the NW comment!!

I lived in Madison or 15 years and have been to many games there. Wins and losses. Just like any fanbase, there are jackasses.

Madison is great. I personally feel the stadium is a bit overrated as many seats are pretty far (northern Dane County far) from the field. It is a good atmosphere, though. I've partied with Wisky fans that I knew (it's important to not be an auslander), and most are pretty great.

Having said that... I've had beer bottles thrown at me by frat boys, people yelling at me for no reason except to taunt, and those fans do NOT do well with a loss. I've also had people turn around and taunt me throughout the game (fortunately we won that game so stfu!).

NOT the most hospitable fans in the world. Really dislike the fans in general. They need to have some "adversity" in their program. The town and the bars are awesome though.

I think I’ll wait and see how iowa performs the next couple weeks. If they win or play well in both games. I’ll make the trip. If they look bad or lose both I’ll
Forget it and head for a Florida bowl when they come down.

I"m mulling over going to Lincoln. Thoughts?

This year? No. Maybe it will be worth it if the game isn't on Black Friday. I went in 2015 and it was so damned cold that it wasn't even that enjoyable. Maybe the tailgating there is epic, but when it was colder than a witch's titty on Black Friday, the place looked like a morgue for tailgating. The stadium is loaded with awful seats, too. Huge percentage of the capacity is open air seats in the endzones and corners. Look at the stadium. And if you need to piss or hit concessions, if you are in that top deck, you got a long walk to get down. I would say don't go until they move the game to October or something.

Currently ranked #1 among P5 teams in the Fulmer Cup standings. #3 overall behind Bryant and Georgia Southern.
I don't know if they can catch those two, but they're way ahead of UGA for the fbs lead. It's been a great team effort, as they don't have any "stars" in the top 10.

Agreed. Madison bars know how to treat visiting fans.

The first game we went to in the mid '70s the security at the stadium gates were confiscating so much alcohol bottles and botas they were filling up old style peach slatted wood baskets yet people were wearing snowmobile suits etc and got plenty of booze into the game.

I don't get this one either. Give their team the business...but why would you get into somebody who's cool enough to travel and support their team.

Went there in 1983, 2009 and 2015. No bad experiences. One drunk student stating Iowa sucked after the 2015 win. If you can't handle that then you shouldn't be going out of your house on any day. When you go to someone else's place its best not to be an obnoxious fan.

Those that make it sound like it's visiting Syria or something are just nuts.

Have seen Iowa fans do this at Kinnick and I don't get it unless they are being obnoxious.

Went in 2014. Good time. They even let us out their field after the game to take some photos. Were nice people to us.

I've been there for two Iowa games (2007 & 2009) and also went there when they played the Gophers (2014) and Ohio St (2008)

The two times I went without Hawkeye gear were fantastic. I was much younger then and had more of an urge to party though. I was treated pretty well as a neutral fan.

But as an opposing fan you're going to get a ton of shit. I would never go to another night game there. If was a mess in 2007. Drunkenness was simply on another level. We went straight back to our hotel bar and drank there. Too many tough guys out looking for fights.
