Well then if you get it then why did you answer no?

If Iowa didnt drop games to bad teams every year then things would be different.
You are a fair weather fan, no... fair weather spectator, 3000 posts on a message board doesnt make you a fan. Im not trying to sound ugly, but come on man!
If you can only win 7 games then so be it, but when you lose to ISU and Minny then you have a problem. Its college football, upsets happen, ALOT! This is like the fourth thread in the last couple of days that point out how many players from Iowa are in the NFL I bet you post negative on all of their posts too!?........well I dont have tickets to the NFL and I dont watch the NFL. The kids do this isnt all about you, its about the program

No saying that this is the right way to think but I think high school kids are thinking that if they are good that there is a lot of different programs that will get them to the NFL.theres 20 seconds ill never get back again... As of now I dont think we have had recruits beating down the door to come to Iowa because of these stats. because they dont know, but they read these message boards and posts like this and find out.Now I agree that this is a good stat but it points out that things are not going good on game day. This post doesnt point out anything about game day... this post was written to appeal to recruits looking at these message boards about a potential for an NFL future at Iowa, not a potential to win every national championship.

A lot of people have said that Kirk does so well at getting players to the NFL......well then that saids that Kirk doesnt have what it takes on game day. maybe you should root for another team? A true fan rides thru thick and thin, If you dont like the most important part of our team, the coach, maybe you should root for whoevers #1 every week!? I hope with the new coaches that Iowa can change that. me too![/QUOTE]

I will always be a Hawk fan....even if they get ISU bad.

That being said only losers dont mind losing.

Yes upsets happen but they shouldnt happen 2 or 3 times every year.

They don't.......where do we factor in the games we shouldn't have won or won because of coaching. Way more of them old friend waaaaaayyyy more of them. Incidentaly that losers argument is soooo rudimentarily flawed it’s pointless to break it down. You don’t want to see, so therefore you’re right. Pretty much this line of questioning happens on every board from Baton Rouge to Norman.

Bingo.

Being critical of your coach, doesn't mean you're less of a fan. On the contrary...it's the deep emotional (as well as financial and time) investment in the team that makes losing those games we shoudn't lose...so tough.

Tough years, down years, injuries, just getting beat by a superior team... I can live with. Pizzing away games that we should win...often in ways so obvious that 30 yr old women say "What the hell are they doing?" (no offense to our female members here) is tougher to stomach.

Once you start to accept losing, you...by definition...become a loser.

I thought I was reading the words of Jesus when I discovered it was one of the biggest message board quote failures in the history of mankind.

Being critical of your coach, doesn't mean you're less of a fan. Always talking bad about them does though. On the contrary good word...it's the deep emotional I hear violins(as well as financial and time) investment in the team that makes losing those games we shoudn't lose...so tough. Maybe you should parlay your huge investment into posive writing, cause right now your negative posts are viewed by potential recruits and you are pizzing your own huge investments down your proverbial leg.

Tough years, down years, injuries, just getting beat by a superior team... I can live with. Whens last time you lived with down year not crying about it?? Pizzing away games that we should win...often in ways so obvious that 30 yr old women say "What the hell are they doing?" (no offense to our female members here) is tougher to stomach. atleast 30 year old women know enough not to make their team look bad in public/ potential recruits eyes

Once you start to accept losing, you...by definition...become a loser. I thought you said tough years you can live with?? sounds accepting. OUCH
Loser by definition_ Slang . a misfit, especially someone who has never or seldom been successful at a job, personal relationship, etc.

Dude, it's a game. WHy are you getting financially and emotionally entwined with something you have zero control over?

Accept losing? You have to accept it you dolt, because there is nothing you can do about it. Your only recourse is to take your beef to le internet.

That's not completely true. I am sure he has 4 years of eligibility left. He could walk on.

While I somewhat agree with what you said above, the current NFL player list in OP doesn't indicate a problem. It should be celebrated. But I said No because:

- The program got a bit stale, and assts were kept a year or two longer than they should have been. The way KF handled the departures will pay dividends.

- Iowa's has issues with depth. The type of player recruited and attrition play a role in this. The new staff should help with this in a variety of ways. But Coach Davis' has stated he can coach around this by taking advantage of skill sets on the team and simplifying the offense so younger players can play. Hopefully the new staff will help with in game decisions as well. Will see what the results will be.

- While I really want Iowa to win every game, this is still College football. I think a college's main purpose is to prepare students for their professional life. I think this holds whether you are an electrical engineering major or football player. I like it that KF does a great job preparing kids for the next phase of their life whether it be the NFL or not. Judging teams solely on W/L records should be saved for professional teams IMO.

- While I understand KF earns a lot of $$$, I think he earns every penny, again IMO. I see the ROI there. But I understand that college football has become big business, and has gotten close to operating like a professional organization. A lot of people (including the NCAA and Conferences) therefore have forgotten what the purpose of college and college athletics is. I am proud that Iowa doesn't operate like Alabama or the SEC in general to compete. But we still compete quite well overall and it will make winning the Nat. Championship much sweeter when we don't have to vacate it two years later.
But again just my opinion, and given the amount of $$$ generated by cfb in general, I understand why others have differing opinions. I don't agree, but I understand. :)

Not saying this to be a smart a$$, but how did KF handle the departures, other than thanking the assistants who left/retired and hiring their replacements?

Or are you suggesting Ferentz asked them to retire/leave? Just curious.

Good question... KF didn't fire anyone. Parker, KOK, Kaz either retired or moved on to new jobs. Win/win on both sides. KF got the staff shakeup that was needed and everyone landed on their feet. It may have taken a year or two longer than probably should have, but other coaches notice this stuff. But really, above all, KF didn't bow to public pressure. He does what he thinks is right which is rare these days. Its his program, he assumes responsibility for his decisions both positive and negative. This is a character trait that most Corp/Org/Political leaders lack today, IMO.

I do too. All 3 were drafted in the last 4 years. #upswing

3 in 4 years is not very good for a program whose fans have aspirations of being elite. The fact that is considered an 'upswing' makes it even worse.

#needmoreoffensiveplaymakersifwewanttoconsistentlyrunwiththebigdogs

((And for the record, I don't care how much $$ KF makes and I don't want him fired, but there is a reason Iowa does not win as many games as the number of NFL players they produce would indicate. Linemen don't carry the ball.))

Wow, I've obviously been mislead. I thought thousands of other people bought season tickets, contributed to the University, and supported Hawkeye football with an enthusiam matched by only the top programs in the country. Hell I even heard that people contributed money to things like stadium renovation and a new football training and admin building.

I'm the only one? I've been duped!

I don't think anybody here is as unreasonable as others insinuate. The Hawks don't have a lot of playmakers that enable them to just totally overpower the Minnesotas of the world; they still have to do it over sixty minutes. Nonetheless, it is difficult to argue that the staff adequately managed our games against the Gophers the last two years.

The one item of rhetoric that might need toned down here, though, is the idea that message board posters are scaring off recruits. 2008 and 2009 were years that I'm guessing had WAY more positive talk on here than in 2010-11 (including NC talk for much of '09). Yet, our 2010 and 2011 classes were stacked compared to our 2008 and 2009 classes. Let's not flatter ourselves with self-importance.
