Iowa's Super Bowl is in Ames This Year

I'm interested to see the response to this.

I messed up, forgot about 2002. I was actually at that OU beat down, it was their homecoming and their fans were annoyed at all the pro Iowa State talk prior to the game. Got some real heckling on the way back to the car.

Dean, in 2002 Mac went .500 and iowa fans have assured me that record sucks regardless of schedule so I don't know why you are bringing that season up.

.500 in conference would be a monumental step up for Rhoads, hell winning 40% of his conference games just once would make Clone fans demand a lifetime contract for him.

Comeon Bryce. You said Mac didn't play tough schedules, so I pointed out a tough schedule.

The long and short of it is Mac did a pretty damned good job of taking a complete embarrassment of a program at the time, and made them at least respectable. I am not sure why ISU fan tries to poo poo what he did for the program, but it seems they all do, and they all think Rhoads is 100X the coach Mac was. I just find it odd is all.

I loved Mac. Extremely thankful for what he did for the program. But it's also revisionist history to elevate him beyond what he was. A good coach who didn't beat any decent team and who lost the job because he couldn't get beyond his extreme conservatism and loyalty to terrible assistants.

News to me and this entire board that the 2002 Hawkeyes weren't a decent team.

Aside from his Ok St win, most of Roads "big wins" turn out to be against crappy teams who were just severly overrated at the time.

2010: Beat #17 Texas, Texas turns out to be a (2-6) 5-7 team
2011: Beat #20 Texas Tech, Tech turns out to be a (2-7) 5-7 team
2012: Beat #15 TCU, TCU who is missing their starting QB for that game, turns out to be a (4-5) 7-6 powerhouse

Exactly. The only real decent wins that Rhoads has is Nebby "I'm so pwoud" on the road, and the win over Okie St. at home.
