I hope you're right. Can't say that I'm too confident either one of them can take over that role. Kirksey, Hitchens, and Morris are all pretty solid LB's in their own right. I just haven't seen any of them really have that knack for firing their team up. They all seem like "nice guys". Which isn't a bad thing off the football field, but on the football field I'd like to see a mad man lined up back there.
I think Law could fit that role, but he has to earn a starting spot first. I certainly hope they don't give him the starting role just because he hits hard. He needs to be disciplined in pass coverage as well. If I remember right Lowdermilk came out of spring ball listed #1.
4 givens under Rhoads:
They will win 3 conference games and only 3
They will pick off someone they probably shouldn't
Sam Richardson will be pulled at some point, Rhoads will have a "gut feeling" watching some dude warm up before a game and start him.
Running game will disappear by October and those of us living in central Iowa will have to listen to ISU fans whine about why Jeff Woody or some other big bulky white dude isn't getting the ball enough........especially if Weisman is killing it.
All of this will lead to 5 or 6 victories and Rhoads will supposedly be on everyone's wish list. For us locally we get to listen to over and over about how ISU is a program "on the rise" for what seems like 12 years in a row.
Why is ISU fan so willing to throw Mac under the bus to stick up for a guy who has yet to accomplish what he did? It would be like Iowa fan sticking up for Alford and throwing Mr. Davis under the bus.....when one was clearly more successful than the other.
I am not throwing Mac under the bus, just pointing out that the circumstances when he was coaching were completely different. The schedule is significantly harder now than under Mac.
If ISU fans get off on a win over Iowa, it based solely on watching Iowa fans melt down. Most of the focus is on B12 play, OOC is just cushion for a bowl game. Winning more in conference > beating Iowa, by a huge degree. The rivalry is fun and all, but if it got scrapped, that would be ok too.
I swear, some of you just want it to mean more.
I think he'll be ok this year. A year of experience under his belt. Trouble is, it won't matter if he's Johnny Football. Isu's defense will stop NOBODY this year.

Mac never made a bowl in the years we played ut/ou, and played 4 noncons every season, and the big 12 north was bad when he coached in his prime. Apples and oranges comparison.
Someone else previously made this claim and I'm calling ******** on this. ISU made bowls for three straight years 2000-2002, there's no way you missed both of those teams for 3 straight seasons. In fact, I remember ISU playing at Oklahoma in 2002, that game put a quick end to Seneca's heisman campaign.

I remember that game quite well. I have never seen a fanbase tumble back to realty quicker than what happened that afternoon.
lulz indeed.
4/22, 43 yards and 0 TD/ 3 INT
60 yards of offense for ISU....for the entire game.
Iowa State Cyclones vs. Oklahoma Sooners - Recap - October 19, 2002 - ESPN
This all took place around the time I lived in Ames from 2000-2005. I had a ton of ISU friends and in 2002 they were doing a pretty damn good job of getting me to switch allegiances. This was the game that snapped me back into my right mind. I realized that no matter how good they thought they were going to be they would always fall flat on their face. I still feel ashamed for that time...the dark times... Never again...never forget...**** ISU...
What the hell is the matter with you?
You should change your username to Tavernhokfromnorwalk.
I've seen the light and have repented much since the dark times. On occasion though I do go into my bedroom and beat myself with a leather belt just to remind me of what I did.
Not good enough.
How can a person who possesses so much hatred for everything ISU almost converted to being an ISU fan during one of the most successful season in Iowa Hawkeye football history?
Now you see why I have such a seething hatred for everything ketchup and mustard colored.
You should hate yourself.
