Iowa's Real Problem

Seeing all the negative posts on Iowa after losing today really makes me wonder if people remember where this program came from since Year 1 of Kirk.
Yes, it really doesn't have a whole lot to do with what happened today except, express the passion fans have for the Program. This is a direct effect of what Ferentz and staff have accomplished in their time.
Yes, Kirk is the highest paid coach in the Big Ten, but he generally has done more with much less than any other coach in the Big Ten. This is a direct reflection as to why they lose games like they did today.

Iowa needs to do to other teams what they do to Iowa. Blitz, spread the field, change things up.

The only real problem with Iowa is that they aren't flexible on Offense, nor on Defense. On Defense, sub some players, when injuries happen and players aren't ready, it is a direct effect of not rotating players at DL and LB when there are opportunities. The Offense just needs to get the best 11 on the field all the time weather it is a 3-Receiver set or 3-TE set.
I may seem to contradict myself a bit here, but I don't think Iowa gives their players and the job they do as coaches enough credit to play outside of the 'norm' and break tendencies. The Staff handicaps themselves by still being in the same mode of operation when they didn't have the players in the program they do today.

It is a double edge sword. I do remember where we were at when KF took over and commend the work he and his staff have done but once you have a taste of the "high life" you want more. KF has shown what his teams can do if they play to potential so the dissapointment is that much more when we have days like today.

I don't think people don't realize where the program came from, in fact, I think it is because we DO realize where the program came from that brings the frustration. We have higher expectations that being average and that's ok. We have a very talented team that isn't playing or being able to play to their potential. whether it be the players heard too much on how good they should be or the coaching making the best of the talent or a combo of both... this is what has everyone so frustrated. I love the hawks and Ferentz. Just drives me nuts just how conservative we are...gives the average or below averages teams an opportunity if we don't make plays or take advantage of opportunities.

KF does do more with less than any other coach in the Big Ten except for Fitzgerald as we saw today...and last year...and the year before, etc.

The thing is, even in Year 1, you could see improvement by the end of the year.

We're just not seeing that this year, and when we don't see improvement, things tend to go poorly.
