Iowa’s Peter Jok is the top scorer among Power 5 teams

I'm impressed with his overall floor game as much as his scoring. We all knew he can put the ball in the basket. But he's improved his rebounding and passing too. He used to turn it over really sloppily. It doesn't feel like he's a ball hog or forcing shots at all. Which is one thing I was afraid of coming into the year. He's played really well and hope he and team can keep it going

He's always had the ability to score and he's doing it at a really high level right now. I'm most impressed about his leadership he's shown and if he can improve his defense it's going to make his game so much better

You can tell he really worked on creating his own shot in the offseason. He has that step back move and quick pull up jumper I don't remember seeing before.

I still wish he would attack the rim more, especially off pump fakes. That's probably the only thing missing from making him a complete scorer

Agree, he's getting his points within the flow of the game.

I do remember a couple of bad early losses him pressuring at the end when in desperation mode though.

Jok hurt his shoulder and shot like crap for a couple games or he would look even better. Having a guy like that is such an equalizer. If he stays healthy and Cook makes the team better when he comes back, we will make the tourney. There is a small chance we go back to the team that let people have wide open layups every time down the floor, but I just don't see it. 12-6 Big 10 record for the 3rd year in a row. You heard it here first folks.

That's different tho. We were in a position where whoever had the ball needed to jack it up.

The games I remember there was still some time and I thought they could keep still working the offense. I just remember thinking being in desperate mode too early.

He's also shooting more this year with a guy in his face. Previous years he'd wanna be wide open but this year putting them up with defenders on him.

The attention he has to have is just invaluable to the other guys. No doubt about it. If Iowa can run an efficient offense where the ball doesn't stop they should just about always get a good look for someone.

True it was a little early. But like one or two possessions early is all. Also with the way he makes contested shots, our best bet at that point in the game was probably to hope he could make a contested shot early in the shot clock. It was close so I agree that it could be a complaint. But he makes those shots all the time so I don't hate it either.

There have been times this year when our offense went stagnant because everyone was looking to get the ball to Jok to take a shot. He will get plenty of looks throughout the course of the game so it's important for us to continue to move the ball and find good shots.

As I've said in other threads Cook's return will continue to take pressure of Jok, and if Cook starts every player in our starting five has the ability to score 15-20 points on a given night.

Great stat. I'm not doubting he won't still lead, but I'll be more impressed if he leads in conference games.

Jok has been impressive offensively to far, but I've also been impressed by his rebounding. Hopefully, he will have a great year.

I really thought that he was going to look like Carmelo Anthony out there. I thought he'd be a ball hog and shoot it about every time he touched it. But he's been far far from that. The fact he's done most of his scoring within the flow of the offense is what I've liked the most. It shows that he's taken to coaching and Fran has done a good job. I know Fran has had his critics but I think he's done pretty well.

Still the top power 5 scorer. From article:

The 6-foot-6 guard leads the Big Ten in scoring by more than four points per game. Illinois’ Malcom Hill is second at 18.6. Jok’s Big Ten scoring lead is so large, he could go scoreless in his next two games and likely still own the scoring lead.

Jok is on pace to become the Big Ten’s best scorer since Minnesota’s Quincy Lewis averaged 23.1 points per game in the 1998-99 season.

I was never worried about Jok passing on shots Fran wanted him to take...talking volume. I was more worried about him taking so many shots that no one else would be involved. I think he's done a great job of getting his teammates involved while still getting his. And he knows when it's time to put the team on his back.

I'm also impressed that he's hitting the pull up jumper and getting to the basket...and the line. He has a very good well rounded offensive game now IMO. And he expended a lot of energy on defense last night as well.
