Iowa's Local Media...

They never ask the toug...just kidding. That's not the point of this thread.

Ever since I moved from Iowa, I've needed to get my fill of Iowa debate through podcasts and weekly writeups. It recently struck me just how much (quality) web content (podcasts, weekly features etc) gets produced by the local media outlets (Jon's, Rob's, BHGP, the KCRG bros etc.) each week. Fans certainly play a part since they are eager to read and tune into several podcasts as week. Anyway, given that there's so much available to listen to and read, I'm curious what your favorite go-to podcasts/stories across the sites.

My go to's are the following. What am I missing out on?

1. Instant Reax (HN). Win or lose, it's a must, even if you're a "Dont tell me how to feel!" type.
2. #OnIowaPod. Nice back and forth commentary, never feels rushed, Marc and Scott get off-track from time to time which gives it that genuine podcast feel.
3. This Week in Vines (BHGP). Funny enough, I love their analysis
4. Where Are They Now (HN). Not necessarily a weekly segment, but a great series.
5. Old Timey Radio Hour (KCRG). It's Gold, Jerry! Gold!
Former: HawkeyeGamefilm's weekly analysis (HN). That was a must read.

I've really enjoyed the On Iowa podcasts. They do a good job breaking previous games down and breaking down the upcoming game as well. I also enjoy Jon's Instant Reaction podcast as well.

However, I've got to say, I've about had my fill of Deace's contributions, or lack thereof, in the HN podcasts. I tried to give one final listen to the latest one that Jon posted and I could only get thru about 15 minutes of it. It gets tiring hearing about Michigan and/or Rudock on what is supposed to be a Hawkeye-centric podcast. I tire of his constant "I'll defer to you as the Hawkeye expert" when he doesn't feel like praising the Hawks. I had to hear him say today that the Pitt game basically has no meaning. Are you freaking kidding me? You only get 12 chances to do this every year....every freaking game has meaning. Frankly, I've probably listened to my last HN podcast....at least until he gets someone other than Deace to contribute. It'd be nice to have someone that has at least a quasi-rooting interest in the Hawks.

Ever since I moved to Des Moines I have been listening to the local talk radio. 1460 AM KXNO has Murph and Andy and the Sports Fanatics with our very own Ross Peterson. Chuck Long comes on Sports fanatics a lot and gives his take. and 1700 KBGG AM has Jimmy B and TC in the morning and Marty and Miller later. I can't always listen but if I can get it on it is great Hawkeye talk and good radio. If you are not in the Des Moines Area I know you can listen to 1460 KXNO on I-HEART-RADIO
I love to read BlackHeartGoldPants

Yeah I heard that too. I understand from a strictly numbers standpoint this game has no bearing on Big Ten play but neither does any OOC game. This game is a huge game for the Iowa football program. Win and you build on fan support and momentum that is MUCH needed for success in the future. Cannot afford to have a slip up and lose any good faith hawk fans have provided. Also, it is an important game for bowl purposes and the season outlook for Ferentz's future. It may just be one game but no doubt that 9-3 tastes a lot better than 8-4. Have to get past that 8 win mark

Fair enough. I used to not care for it, but anymore, I don't mind the contrarian / no affiliation toward Iowa viewpoint, and Deace knows B1G football since he's a Michigan fan. Wait, am I defending Deace? Help me.

They are really hard for me to listen to for some reason. I want to but it just bores me to a point & I stop absorbing the content. I don't know if it's their monotone. I don't like jock shock, but they are no where near that which may be part of the problem. No controversy. Miller & Deace are really good together and Deace provides some color.

I used to think Deace provided good color commentary and I never much cared about his Wolverine bias....but this year has been impossible to listen to. He contributes virtually nothing to discussions around the Hawkeyes and I've found the podcasts, this year to be going from really good breakdowns of the games the last couple years to just pointless "30,000 foot commentary" this year. Honestly, the podcasts that they did leading up to the season were 10 times better than what they've put out so far during the season. I was pretty jacked to listen to them once the season got going, but they're just not good at all.

I like Deace's takes as it come from a non Iowa fan. Always interesting to me what an outsider might think of the team. I don't think he goes out of his way to bash the Hawks and just calls it as he sees it, so I'm fine with that.
