IOWA-WISCONSIN ON FOX - 7:30 PM CENTRAL TIME

My only frustration is that, especially with the night games, in years past (even last season) they would have had this game LONG announced. There was always a big press release (for at least the last three or so seasons) for all the night games, which would be almost weekly until early November.

This waiting until a few days, even hours before the actual kick-off to announce the when's and with whom's is for the birds.

There is still two weeks before the game so it is not some last minute notice. Stop whining ;)

That being said I get home late enough to Des Moines after a 6:30 kickoff, usually 12 AM or 12:30. I wont be getting home until 1 AM or so. That just sucks ballz when you are an old man like me haha.

I might be able to zip over to the Wake Forest Notre Dame game and be back in time for the hawks.
Assuming Wake Forest is still there after this hurricane goes through. I had bought enough water and canned stuff to get through a 5 day weather event a few weeks ago and my old lady was like "dude, you're nuts." She was at Costco today and said they are almost out of bottled water and the canned crap even like Chef Boyardee crap is almost all gone. Worst case we'll get boxed in for a day or two if 2 cricks flood (which I'm sure they will), but now my old lady realizes I ain't as dumb as I look. I'm a touch worried about a low spot in my backyard flooding the corner of my house if we get 24 hour torrential rainstorm.

I doubt we'll lose water, but ever bince that Flood of '93 I'd always rather have more than I need than less and certainly wouldn't want to be in a spot where I gotta buy stuff as a storm is approaching.

Have you been through a 'cane before? Dude, rain is but ONE of your worries. Get those trees trimmed NOW. Get out the tarps, a gas chainsaw, some plywood, and charge up all the power tools. IF this thing goes as predicted, it'll REALLY suck for you (been through too many to count).

If you're serious about preps, PM me, I've done a crap-ton of it over the years and know a ton of hacks/tricks that don't involve investing ten large in a generator, and/or turning your place into a 911 Ops Center.

OKeefe do you live down here?

I've been in Greensboro for 20 years. We have worse summer storms than what happens when hurricanes hit the coast.

I've got no big trees and I bought in a neighborhood with buried utilities so I wouldn't get shut off in a 'cane or after an ice storm. I'm pretty far inland (over 200 miles from the ocean) and am just worried about flooding. The evacuation centers for the people out on the shore are near me. My house is 910 feet above sea level.

That far inland shouldn't require anything as extreme the coastal people will need to do

I'm in upstate SC. My buddy was in Columbia a few years ago when a small 'cane hit and they had historic flooding. If this fucker goes cat 5 and lingers once it hits land, it's gonna get ugly. They got over 18 inches in 24 hours in Columbia a few years ago. It shouldn't be that bad up where I am, but we had like 3 weeks straight of rain followed by one of those pop up afternoon thunderstorms that dumped 4 inches in under 2 hours a few weeks ago and we were landlocked off of that for 3 hours and I had water threatening my house. My buddy said the winds won't be an issue, but if this thing stops he thinks it will be like one of those summer storms that goes on for a day or two.

Yeah, agreed, it's just flooding risk that I'm worried about. I've been through a dozen typhoons in Japan and my guess is those are worse than the hurricane will be by the time it gets to me. They get so many typhoons in Japan that they have storm windows built in. We just closed those things and everything was fine. There were sustained winds over 50 mph. This thing will be way bigger than that when it hits the shore, but it will die as it moves inland.

Everyone stay safe.

You mean to tell me that the Japanese engage in better disaster planning than Americans? Well knock me down with a feather.

Japanese first responders are so cute with their white gloves, boots and little outfits and tiny vehicles

The natural disasters they get in Japan are waaaaaaay worse than what we get in America. There are typhoons that hit the Kanto region on about a monthly basis during typhoon season. And earthquakes are super common. The worst are tsunamis. You get a little bit of notice, but those things are remorseless. The worst possible natural disaster save for I guess a sudden volcanic eruption.

I got a buddy from Minnesota who lives about 25 feet from the Pacific on the east coast of Chiba. He has two tsunami plans. One is to fight his way to the top of the only hill in the area that is relatively close to his house and two is to pray like hell.

Governor McTaxter has been on TV telling people on the shore to get the hell away for two days and they've got a mandatory evacuation order in place starting tomorrow. Some people are just idiots, though.

For those complaining about the late start, maybe you can bring your pillows with you to Kinnick and take naps between time outs
