Iowa weak against Spread

Iowa State is weak against the spread, the up the middle, the end run, the bomb, the flat pass, the screen pass and every other football play that has been used since 1894.

:D
Someone should start a thread on CYFan "Iowa State weak against other football teams."

I saw a thread earlier that made me laugh that tried to prove the Iowa's defense wasn't weak against the spread. Great use of statistics to prove the point. However Iowa has not faced a good spread offense. When I mean good i talking the Big 12 spreads. Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Baylor. Missouri last year was not IMO a good spread offense Gabbert was a good QB but not a spread QB. After seeing these teams last year and what they did this year they would tear Iowa apart.

I dont even understand how this can make sense. In your opinion Missouri was not a good spread offense, and Gabbert not a good spread QB. So Gabbert who in two years threw for nearly 7000 yards and 40 touchdowns is not a good spread qb? The same QB that was taken in the first round by the Jaguars isnt good in an offense designed to throw the ball? And last year the offense had two players with over 90 receptions, one is a pre-season all american this year. So, in your opinion, why isn't Gabbert a good spread QB?

According to ESPN they do:
48 teams run the spread offense - ESPN

We have played and beat 3 of 4 teams on that list, now go away...

Technically he is right. In the past, under Greg Davis, Texas ran a modification of the WCO, not a Spread offense. That's partially why their lackluster performance at RB the past years has hampered them offensively. Seriously, of all schools, Texas can't produce a RB year in and year out?

At any rate, I haven't seen them fully in their new regime, but with the hiring of the OC from Boise State, or Co-OC rather, I would have to think they intent to modify the offense to a true Spread passing attack.

Iowa did ok against a very good Georgia Tech spread offense a couple years ago. Cy fans, always talking through their a$$.

That was not a spread offense at all. It was basically a glorified Wing T. When I define a good spread offense I look at a qb who put up over 30 tds in a season or more. 40 in two years for a big 12 spread is not that good. Bradford had 50 tds in a season and he's on his way to stardom in the NFL so maybe the defenses those years weren't that bad.
Gabbert numbers his junior and senior year:
24 TDs and 9 Ints
16 TDs and 9 Ints

Daniel his junior and senior year:
33 and 11
39 and 18

Daniel nearly did what Gabbert did in his career in one year. IMO Gabbert easily could be a bust.

Last year, there were only 13 QBs that threw 30 TDs or more. A couple of those QBs did not run a spread. Only 7 were in AQ conferences. So if your argument is that there are only good 7 good offenses in the country and that Iowa's defense might struggle against those teams, congratulations, I guess. I have another prediction: I bet Iowa would struggle to move the ball against Alabam's D.

And how many NFL games has Chase Daniel played in?
