Iowa vs Nebraska Game Thread

LAWL at that sideline reporter. "Outside of the turnovers, what was the biggest key in that first half?"

That's like asking, outside of the fact that you dumped water all over yourself a moment ago, why are you wet?

It's easy to say turnovers are the key of the game. I disagree.

It's 3 points in 3 trips to the red zone and a QB that throws 80% of his passes late and behind the receiver.

They scored on one drive that went into the red zone. The other two drives ended with turnovers.

Turnovers are the key of the game. You're trying to split hairs like a champ here.

The joke is all the crying about this team and coaches. We are dominating the game in all aspects unfortunately we have turned the ball over 4 times. The game plan has been solid. You guys complain if the game plan is anything but 80 yard passes from the backup qb. We are winning despite all of the missed opportunities. Let's go hawks finish the drives and we win!

We are winning despite not always playing the best players. Running game was always going to be the key to this game. Which is why we are scratching our heads about the decision to run the shotgun on the four yard line with a back that is guaranteed 3 yards per carry.

It's like that everywhere on this Hawkeye team. They don't scratch where it itches, ever. They can't get out of their own way. It's frustrating to watch for those of us that have seen good Hawkeye football that did get out if its own way and take what the defense is giving them to score.

As sucky as Iowa has played today and still be ahead at half shows us how much more sucky Nebraska is.

These 2 teams are embarrassing to the sport of football.

Sad. Just sad.

Have to stop them on their first drive. When you dominate a team but keep them in it with turnovers...it's a slippery slope.

This game should be over, but in true Hawkeye fashion...gotta keep it close....UGH.

For the seemingly 1,000 time the defense will be asked to win a game because of inept offense. Darn that whole "executing our offense thing"

Missed the first half but by the number of turnovers and the posts things don't sound so good for the offense. Haven't heard any negatives about the defense or special teams so I assume they've played pretty well. My hope is the t/o stop and the offense can get a couple of touchdowns and the Hawks pull this out.

If Iowa was ahead 28-0 like they SHOULD be, you would have a point. As it is, they are one score away from trailing.

Game plan has been alright. Execution has been terrible. Play calling was good until we got to the 6 on the first drive then it took a dip. We've only earned 3 points. Johnny interception was kinda a fluke. Good pass rush but rarely does that happen. Should prolly be down going into half. Id love to see CJ in the second half. Hes gonna have more success with this wind.

This is why I wish Iowa would defer more often against even competition. When the opponent scores to end the half and gets the ball to start the second half it is like a turnover -- you lose a possession. Additionally, their upcoming possession coming out of half is likely to be their best-executed drive, outside of their first, scripted drive, because they have 20 minutes to plan and all the coaches can get together to discuss the adjustments necessary to be successful.

Now, taking the ball first in a game where you are an underdog makes sense, because if you score you get a chance to smack the opponent in the mouth and tell them you aren't just going to lay down and die.

One may ask, after the tenth time of our players failing to execute, whether or not we have the personnel to execute said offense. If not, the logical conclusion is to either switch personnel to some that would be capable of execution, or if the offense needs to be tweaked so that it can be executed by the existing personnel. Iowa defies this logic.

Simply cannot ask the defense to constantly play flawless. They have given up 1 big play, but when the offense can't help...we're in trouble.

Don't forget, Iowa will be able to make their adjustments too. Hahahahahaha

Shut up, Kirk.

We play the most boring football I have ever seen. Every game is the freaking same. Unless the other team just doesn't show up, and we happen to execute the best we ever have....we cannot muster more than 3 points against teams with a pulse...

As others have said, this staff is just clueless. We are running all over these guys, complete a few nice passes to keep defense honest...and then we go shotgun from the goal line.

We have a RB who excels at scoring TD's, and we don't use him? Even if he's in there, and other team knows he'll get it...we CAN use him as a decoy for PlayAction.

Instead we just go mental. And Jake is not a good QB unless the game is out of control and he's forced to pass and gets into a rhythm. Issue is, he rarely finds it.

We've seen it twice this year. Once against NW, and a half against WI.
