Is anyone else pumped!?! Let's go Hawks!!
What do you guys have?
I got Iowa 67 MSU 62

GO HAWKS!!

Pumped, but don't give the Hawks much of a chance. Izzo is a magician in March and knows how to get a team motivated.

Sparty 71 Hawks 56

I'm going with this. I hope I'm proven wrong, and I think there's a decent chance that I will be. But until given reason to do otherwise, I'm not betting against Izzo in March.

Even in losing efforts, this team fought...They had two OT games (Wisconsin, near NCAA lock, and Michigan who is solidly on the bubble) Had a shot to take down #1 OSU, Killed MSU at Carver and played with them well into the second half at Breslin.

If we could just stop having the 12-0 scoring droughts that take us out of the game totally we would be pretty dang tough....and against Purdue we did just that. If we win just the two OT games....We would be staring at 13-17....which in my mind would be amazing.

This is a bad Michigan State team...I give the Hawks a good chance of sneaking by the Sparatans. After that I think the Boilers will be looking for payback. Two and done.

Michigan State is playing for their tourney lives and we don't have a favorable matchup at any position. Hate to say it, but I think we get run 82-65 MSU. Lucas, Green and Appling go nuts and we have another 6 minute scoring drought that seals the deal.

I have no confidence in Gatens, May or McCabe's ability to step up from the perimeter, so it will be Basabe, Cartwright and Cole against MSU.

ye have little faith...I am cautiously optimistic....no way would we blow them out again....but as long as we can avoid that signature scoring drought that we have had at points...it's going to be a close one.

Iowa is underdogs,rightfully so.
One thing that I noticed in the game in EL tho...Iowa was the aggressor, going to the hole, and getting in the paint. MSU was settling for shots from the arc,and jumpers.
Now, in EL, that works for MSU because frosh Appling shoots well at home, and Lucas is back to playing well.
But, at Indy, with a strange arena, outside shooting tends to suffer, and so teams that go to the hole might flourish. Now, Iowa has to finish much better than at MSU and make their free throws(which is really what took them out of that game in the 2nd half). But, I think Iowa will hang around in this game, despite the huge incentive for MSU to win,and make it tense for Sparty...

Iowa 71 MSU 73. Iowa has a history of beating MSU in the BTT,in physical,tension-filled emotional games. History might repeat itself. Go Hawks!!

A little contradiction, there -- it's "signature" but have only had it "at points"? Unless by "at points" you mean 95% of the games over the last 20 or so years;)

We will know how this will play out based on the first few perimeter shots by Iowa. Misses and Hawks will shoot < 30% from 3, again, and lose by 2-digits. If MG & McCabe can hit their first few then this will be a very good game decided by which team rises above their bad free throw shooting.

Even Forde is giving Iowa MBB some lovin. It may not be much but:
"Best first-round matchup: Iowa-Michigan State. The Spartans are the only first-day team currently in realistic NCAA discussion, and this game will be a must-win. The Hawkeyes may be 11-19 on the year, but they've shown some moxie in their first season under Fran McCaffery. They took Wisconsin and Michigan into overtime, upset Purdue -- and blew out the Spartans by 20 in Iowa City."

I don't know I would say it's the "signature" way we have been blown at this year...which has only happened at points. ;)

I think the Hawks are going to play it close today....

Be nice if May would rise up and hit a few shots. He has really been MIA. Even 6-8 points would be a plus.
