Iowa vs Edinboro Preview

What does this mean? Particularly the bolded line?

"It's the right thing to do with where we're at with some personal things," he said. "This is not an indication in any way, shape, or form on Clark's performance. He is still the guy and will be the guy when we come back to town a week from Thursday when we're wrestling Buffalo here.
"It's better to keep Clark at home, and this shows our depth. Either guy we're good with and it's good for Gilman as well."

Good thing or bad? I.e. does he need extra work to get his grades up or is he taking tough courses and needs to be dedicated to school as well? Or maybe neither, and there's just some immovable object in his class sched.?

As we all know some get through school easier than others. I knew a kid in school that had no motivation and barely studied had an A average. He had an excellent memory and was a great test taker. On the flip side I also remembered a kid that studied like crazy and was motivated to do well in school beyond anyone I knew. However he struggled to get B's. He would lock up during tests and would forget info he studied for hours.
Its a great asset to have a quality D1 backup at any weight. I'm grateful to see Iowa have guys like Gilman, Grothus, Brooks etc than step in when life issues happen. There is nothing wrong with Cory staying home and focusing on the truly important part of his scholarship.

Ho-hum, just another uninspired, un prepared performance for the Hawks. Better hope Brooks wins or we're losing this meet...

Sam Brooks sounds great tonight! Turned him like a top in the 2nd, quick TD in the 3rd for a 10-0 lead. If Iowa was trying to impress any Pennsylvania recruits, they failed miserably tonight...

...aaaaaaand Lira gets stuck to finish off a horrible night of wrestling. Probably wasn't a great move to leave all the HWTs in Iowa City tonight. Hawks barely limp outta PA 22-19 winners. So far this year we've been horribly underwhelming. Goodness gracious...

From what it sounds like Lira gave up 30 pounds. Almost seems like the Brands Brothers were completely unprepared for Ramos losing and Jeva getting pinned. Almost cost email. Work to do fellas!

Lira giving up 50lbs to the guy didn't help matters at all.

That's kind of what I was getting at. I can't believe we left both guys home. Unless it was completely unavoidable (i.e. grades, school work or punishment), Brands knew this was a possibility. That's what I don't get.

Obviously not the results that we wanted but there were a few bright spots with the young guys (Brooks & Gilman) Completely dominating their guys. Ramos losing to Schopp is disappointing but not a huge surprise. Schopp is long (which gives shorter guys fits) and he no slouch (he'll be an All American this year). An early loss will help Ramos focus on every match going forward. Like Pin said, a win is a win. Now time to move forward and get ready for PSU in Carver at the end of the month.

So you want to risk Burak/Bobby's injury to rush them back for a meaningless dual in December? I'm happy our coaches are not as shortsighted as you.
yeah the hawks weren't super sharp tonight, but at Iowa they train for national titles not wins at Edinboro.

Please show me where I was begging for Burak/Bobby to be in the lineup.

feel free to read your own posts. you made two comments about how it wasn't a great idea to leave them home and how you couldn't believe the coaching staff left them home w/ the possibility of a close dual. They are hurt, it's not an important dual. seems pretty obvious to me.

Curious...is TJJ no longer considered a heavy? As I stated previously, unless it was unavoidable I'm not sure why he was left home when there was a possibility of giving up close to 60 pounds at the end of the night. I usually really enjoy your posts but I think you need to take a chill pill and relax a little before you jump down someone's throat about something when you haven't a clue as to what they're talking about.
