Why in the world would Petras even think of coming back after graduation? Does he really believe he's got a shot @ the NFL?
People were chanting MVP a section over from meSomewhat Sad that the player of the game is the Hawkeye Punter
Tory MFing Taylor
We have nearly regressed to that point, but many are still in denial.Reminds me of what Hayden said before we got here:
“Every time Iowa made a first down, the whole crowd erupted. I got to thinking, ‘My gosh, what would happen if we ever scored a touchdown?’”
We may never know.
High school was his stomping grounds. Step to college too big. To NFL even it would be even bigger. At least Spencer got to excel at HS. More than most of us.Why in the world would Petras even think of coming back after graduation? Does he really believe he's got a shot @ the NFL?
The announcers were just accepting it and not even bringing it up. All they said was Kirk is all-in on Petras and "those aren't cheers".Yes, the only reason Petras is still starting is because defense and special teams keep bailing out the offense. So the offense has no incentive to make big changes. No other coach would have left Petras start the 2nd half today.
I almost wish we would see a 3rd down punt. Anything to send a message. Clearly it got into Spencer’s head yesterday. You don’t want to screw with a young mans psyche, but at what point are the boo’s more harmful than a 2nd half benchwarming?Fran would be a better choice at OC at this point an that's not hyperbole. At least Fran would scrap what's not working and try something else...like counters and misdirection...
Here's the deal. When Kirk and Brian think they have enough points to win, you will see this every time. Doesn't matter if that number is 40, 30, or in yesterday's case 5. The fumble inside the five yard line didn't help. It's one thing to not like turnovers. It's another to fear them so bad you don't even want your offense on the field. Someone else mentioned that Spencer has so much tension in his throwing motion It's almost impossible for him to make a solid throw.
That's a reasonable assessment. This offensive staff prefers the incomplete over the chance of a sack or pick. Dolph was saying on the radio they worked hard this off-season at getting the ball out of the QB's hands quicker.
What was most upsetting, even more than the putrid offensive showing, was not taking advantage of the solid field position we had to work with most of the day. This isnt like that Rutgers game from a few years ago where we seemed to start every drive inside out ten. We started numerous drives in plus territory.
Mark my words. You will see a Reggie Roby situation this year where we punt before fourth down. I'm surprised we didn't see it yesterday. Unfortunately, great as Taylor is, you just don't play the game like that anymore. Nobody does. That's Nile Kinnick era football metality
False premise. It's not an "either/or".
At some point Kirk or Brian needs to send a message that his play is not acceptable. Keeping him in does not send that message. Petras knows he did not play well. He was probably shocked he WASN'T benched.I almost wish we would see a 3rd down punt. Anything to send a message. Clearly it got into Spencer’s head yesterday. last year the media would at least defer to the great defense. Saw a take where one idiot said Iowa was bad in “every facet of the game”. Clearly not accurate and it takes it away from special teams and defense, the only reason we won yesterday
if this continues, this team could implode. I am scratching my head wondering where the psychology of the coaching staff is going here. Or lack of it, anyway.
it is almost as if the coaches (kf, bf) are telling the fan base to basically stick it- we all agree this offense is terrible and has been for some time, but the lack of trying to shake things up in an attempt to get players to try and over achieve is mind boggling
Yea, but that is Air Force's identify. They run the triple option which is geared for running. Not the same comparison. They expect to run the ball well. Iowa is trying to have a balanced attack and are not doing either well.I can't believe all the whining on here. Air Force also passed for only 109 yards against an FCS opponent, and their fans seem perfectly happy about it.
I am probably in the minority, but I love watching their offense. I would trade what the Hawks are trotting out for that in a heartbeat.

As for the boo's, if they benched Petras and the booing continued, Petras would realize it is really directed at Brian & Kirk.
We should be thankful for Norm and Phil Parker on a daily basis. Without him we may as well go back to the script Iowa on the helmets.
