Iowa = "The Mendoza Line"

This says it well.

i
9. Iowa Hawkeyes: Kirk Ferentz and these Hawkeyes have become the Mendoza Line of the Big Ten so, naturally, they're ranked closer to the middle of the pack. The offense showed flashes last season when it went away from its conservative style, so a lot hinges on just how well C.J. Beathard and these receivers play. The offensive line also needs some help with the departure of both tackles.

Mendoza Line reference

At least the Hawks are still drinking that cup of coffee in the Big Leagues!!! Better than say, for example, ISU? Oh yeah, the Hawks struck out against ISU last year, in true Mario (or is it actually, Minnie?) Mendoza form.

Why do people around here constantly compare us against Iowa State? It's like comparing Iowa to a big pile of dog crap and saying "OMG WE'RE BETTER CRAP THAN YOU ARE!"

Compare Iowa to someone that's worth a damn sometime.

Very well said, Sparky.

The Hawkeyes, whatever you want to say, pi** and moaners, just played in
Another January bowl.

Lil brother has NEVER done that, have they??
Go Hawks

Hmmmm . . . It's a play on the analogy. I suppose I could have said the Hawks struck out against Wisconsin last year or OSU the year before, but so do a lot of others, hardly a Mendoza-worthy reference.

You can call it whatever you want, you still couldn't help but bring up ISU.

January bowl's are pathetic now....People should be upset when they get steam rolled by a bottom SEC team in whatever the crappy bowl name was last year. Can you even name the bowl game they went to last year without looking it up?

Ha this is hilarious. I don't know if it's just a brain fart or what but i can't think of the name for the life of me. I can go back a long way and name what bowl we played in what year. But I can't think of last year's. Wasn't it the bowl that used to be the gator bowl?

I'm not going to take the effort to look it up, but I believe you are correct. It used to be the Gator Bowl, now its the Tax-Slayer Bowl.

If Iowa truly is the Mendoza Line then Iowa may be closer in comparison to ISU than to somebody who is worth a damn sometime. Certainly closer in comparison to ISU than to somebody who is worth a damn all the time.

IF

Mendoza was better-than-average defender and much-less-than-average on offense.

Yep. Sounds like Iowa.

On the other hand, if the point is that Iowa overall is like Mendoza just as a hitter?

Not accurate. Not even close.

Iowa is average; Mendoza wasn't close to being average as a hitter.
