Iowa Strength Coach Is Making $595,000 This Year

They are certainly trying to 'spin' this article aren't they? $595k seems like a lot for an S&C coach but not outrageous when comparing it to other P5 coaches and certainly not when you consider that he is the best in the game at what he does.

Wow. I'm not totally surprised though as he is such an integral part of this program that develops players. Iowa is very lucky to have him for all those years. Perhaps he entertained other opportunities and Barta opened his checkbook. Pure speculation. Who knows what went down but he has been so important to the program.

I thought every staffer at the whole University of Iowa is slotted to get regular pay increases, and the small increases each year pay off for the people who stay at the University not just in the Athletics Department.

Recall I believe Notre Dame offered trying to lure him away a few years ago. Also he has been approached by several Pro teams.

Coach Doyle is as important to Iowa's success as any coordinator in the country is to their program. Many teams are paying coordinators $800,000.00 to 1 mil. How about a story on the results Iowa gets from their low paid coordinators as opposed to their counterparts who make much more. 18 years of excellence warrants and deserves a high salary.

worth every penny. if you could choose where your athletics donations went, mine would go right into his pocket.

If anything he works more hands on with the players than coaches do year around. When you hear about former players coming back to work out after they've gone to the pros to make their millions he's as much of the reason as anyone. And they all know and freely admit that. I think it's the Iowa way to take care of him. They can so why not? There's nothing wrong with having your priorities in order and taking care of them accordingly. Iowa is a developmental program it starts and stops with Doyle... He may be underpaid if anything if you figure in what his value is to the program...

The tone of the article in USA Today kind of seems like they're doggin us for paying the coaches so high.
Then USA Today is stupid. Good assistant coaches are crucial to success at a place like Iowa. We aren't going to get a bunch of 4 and 5* guys every year, we have to develop players. We get some guys with talent and it's up to the coaching staff to turn them into studs. KF doesn't do this all by himself, as a matter of fact I would guess that his staff does the great majority. So if you have guys who are great at building strength and teaching fundamentals, you hold on to them. How do you hold on to them? You pay them.
