Iowa State's opponent (NC Central) is from the same conference as.....Hampton!

Thats kind of crazy. I think ISU is too good to have it happen again. Although if they go cold something bad could happen.

When I was in Miami for the Hox first Orange Bowl we got to talking to some gals, asked them where they went to school. One said " you've prolly never heard of it. It's called Hampton"

Oh but I have heard of it, said I

;)

Awesome. You got a loud laugh, out of me.

I was going to post something similar to this once the pairings got announced. Before the conference tournaments, my very deep dark horse team was NC Central. So I had to laugh when they got paired against Iowa State.

NC Central has won 20 straight games and their last loss was on January 11th. They won on the road @NC State earlier in the year. They have one guy who takes something like 25% of their shots and averages 20 points a game.

Iowa State opened as only a 9 point favorite, which is the lowest spread out of all the 3-seeds, and the spread has remained relatively steady, perhaps slightly edging upwards to 10. At any rate, it is no walk in the park game for the Cyclones. I'm sure they will field a lot of questions about Hampton and I wouldn't be surprised if "the mayor" had his team watch that game.

They must have chemistry issues.

Back when Iowa was good earlier this year I looked at scores pretty much every night and NC Central was one of the teams I took notice of. They're a good team, played Wichita State and Cincinatti fairly tough. Iowa State's pretty good so I'm not picking the upset but I wouldn't be shocked if the Clones went down in the first (second) round.

Yeah, don't think for a second that Hoiberg won't be drilling that into their heads. Don't look past anybody in the NCAAs!

I would say this team is more susceptible to the upset than the group that lost to Hampton.

1) they aren't as talented as them

2) they rely heavily on the three...go cold one game and it is over.

3) niang could be done from one bad hit that breaks the stitches open.

4) Kane seems to get hurt if the wind blows...so either he is a miracle of modern medicine with how he acts like he is dying and can come back or he is a big faker.

i have isu winning one game in the tourney...but I could see them lose their first or go to the final four. I just don't know as this field is wide open.

This would be some kind of a record. :)

Yeah even today Iowa State has been held as only a single digit favorite. People definitely aren't predicting a blowout

I am thinking this ISU team is higher on the talent side.

Kane, Ejim, Niang, Hogue, Morris, Long

Vs Tinsley, Rancik, Horton, Sullivan Shirley.

Tinsley was the highest scoring guy at 14.3 points a game, it was a wonder that team did as well as it did really. Their defense was better, but offensively the could have some clunkers

I guess if you look at what Hoibergs teams have done in their first round of NCAA games the past 2 years, the game might not be close. The blew out UCONN 2 years ago and Notre Dame last year. The games were not even competitive

I think the line reflects the fact that ISU did not blow anyone out in the Big 12 with maybe the exception of Baylor early in the season. People see them as allow teams to stick around.

Guess will see
