Iowa QBs Taken in NFL Draft

Help me out here my fellow Hawk fans with better memories. Since Long and Vlasic, have we had another Iowa QB taken in the NFL draft? I'm thinking there was one, maybe Rodgers? Was having a discussion with a guy today about the lack of NFL QBs we've had in our system it seems like and that got me thinking just how few in the last 25 years we've really had that are NFL quality.

hartlieb was on the Oilers practice squad for a couple years, not sure what happened after that.

Dan Mcgwire was a 1st round pick ,but I don't think that counts.

I think both Hartlieb/Rodgers were 12th round picks.....Rodgers might stuck around on the Bills practice squad for a year or two....Can't remember, sombody will set straight on all this.

Thanks guys. I found a great website and did some very quick research. Here are the #s of draftees since 1985 if anyone cares, by position type according to profootballreference.com. I think I added them up right. Remember, just because they were drafted doesn't mean they actually played a down in the league.

DBs - 13

DLine - 11

LB - 9

OL - 21

TE - 11

RB - 10

WR -5

QB - 4 Have not had one drafted since Rodgers 1992. Have not had one actually play a down in the League since Vlasic 1987.

So, that's 18 years without a QB drafted, 23 without one playing a down in NFL. Not sure why this is, and not saying you have to play in the league to be a good college QB. However, with the talent we seem to be bringing in now and in future classes, if we can find an NFL caliber QB, the most important position on the field....... well, just sayin. I was a little surprised to see only 5 WR in that whole time too.

I did not count McGwire FYI, just because really he was not a Hawkeye.

Wow, actually Hawkeye season ticket holder thank you :)

So am I but I know the one thing that Michigan fans love to brag about is how many player they have go into the NFL. Thats about all they have to say right now since their program is down. That and the amount of post you have. Plus the negative "thats all?" mood of your statements.

Your number of posts have got to start somewhere. And just because a guy is wanting to know more about Hawkeye history does not mean he is a troll.

Maybe hes not but how many trolls come in and make post like this? Also how many post do they have when they do this? Im just saying we are having a ton of negative threads on here since the last game, so I guess that was my way of saying maybe you should state that a different way because you look like a troll. Also I didnt come out with any name calling or anything I simply put "Michigan troll?"

Thanks Mac. I actually read the site a lot, but don't feel the need to post consistently which hopefully doesn't make me a troll. My goal in life is not to have the most posts on this site, but I do enjoy reading posts on here that give me Hawkeye Info I find interesting. This was just an interesting topic I was chatting about with a salesman that stopped in. And I don't believe my post was negative, just some numbers. I believe all the #s of draftees show how positive it is. In my limited football knowledge, I also think a great QB can take you a long long ways and is the most important position on the team.

Also I am very defensive on this subject. Living around all these Michigan fans and in any football arguement this is what they always go to. Just got the vibe that you were trying to point out low numbers. Anyways carry on.

No offense taken outoftowner. Sorry you have to deal with MU fans. Here's to hoping Ruddock is the stud QB we've been waiting for.

Wow outoftown, didn't you jump down someone's throat (your sig states so) about how others shouldn't treat posters like d-bags, calling him a Michigan troll is kinda being a hypocrite? You sure are sensitive.

Bogeyman, correction.

Vlasic played in games with the Chiefs and Chargers at the end of his career. He played six years in the league, I believe. I am almost certain he played in games in each of his last two seaons. Unless I miss my guess he started a playoff game with the Chargers in one of his last two seasons. That was more like 17 years ago, FWIW. If it were 23 years that would mean Vlasic never played after his rookie year.

That website you reference is good, but it is not flawless. I am familiar with it.

I just said "Michigan troll?" seeing if anyone else thought the same. No one else did so I told the guy why I questioned it. Didnt call him a name or anything. If I was out of line than Im sorry. Like I said though this is all I hear from my Michigan friends.

I get what you are saying. To clarify, I meant the last QB we had drafted that played any game was Vlasic, Drafted in 87. I wasn't going by the actual last game he played but just the draft year for the last Iowa QB to play a game in the NFL. It is a pretty cool site, all the Iowa alum to play. I think we have 23 in the league right now??? It is interesting that a program as good as our hasn't been able to send a QB to the NFL though in quite some time. One of those oddities I guess.
