Iowa player that just couldn’t get there

What's the logic behind this? It's not a zero sum game where if one player improves another can't. Quite the contrary.
I'm late to this thread and I'm a little surprised Glen Worley hadn't been mentioned. He was a pretty highly thought of recruit who's freshman season seemed like the best one he had at Iowa where he regressed every yr after. I might be hyperbolizing that but he just never improved his game. 6'7-6'8 kid that couldn't jump over a phone book. Fouled like crazy. He could shoot a little bit but just wasn't athletic enough for D1 BIG Hoops of that era and due to all his fouling he couldn't ever play big mins just due to that. It seemed like he had 2 or 3 fouls in the first half of every game he played.

Yeah, was just some Wilson basketball I had at home. Or maybe Spalding. I can't remember, that was 40 years go.
Along that same vein his bro too. CM became a decent role player but for what high rankings he came in with he didn't meet those expectations either.

I liked PMac because I admired his heart
Coming back from serious surgery
And I cheered the threes he would occasionally make and some were very timely
Connor played a role that wasn't appreciated by many
He played very good D and had the knack of getting into the heads of the opponents
He was constantly talking to them, infuriating them and causing them to foul him
He and Jordan were terrors on the line, pay the price for committing foul on them
Both PMac and Connor were savvy players and had excellent floor games
Connor and Caitlin are my favorite couple

Adam Woodbury was a top 50 recruit coming out of high school. He ended up averaging 6.2 points and 5.5 rebounds a game in his college career…at 7’1”.
As a senior, he averaged 7.6 points and 8.3 rebounds, average at best for a center.

I wouldn't personally count them as under achievers. Clay Hargrove, especially, was an over achiever. Connie Hawkins never got a fair shake here.

I believe Roy Williams from North Carolina wanted him bad and even was at his home the night before he committed to Iowa! Yeah if he woulda been able to do 12/8 or so that bust label wouldn't be on him to the extent that it is. He could defend he used his length well at that. But he had no explosiveness to his game. He was the abnormality in that as a D1 7'1 center that played as much in college that he did he didn't get a sniff at the NBA. There's some crazy stat out there I'd seen on 7'ers and how likely it is that they get to the NBA I wish I could remember the number but it's pretty high.
I think he toiled around the Gleague for years though. Not sure if he ever went over seas or not.
Yeah he and Andre Woolridge had a hell of a report it seemed like right out of the gates. But Woolridge was a SR his freshman yr and that was all they played together for. The last thing I remember about Ruckers career was he was on the Lakers preseason roster with Shaq for a brief time. Not sure what ever happened to him since.
