Iowa offers 4 star Elijah Macon

Fran is certainly doing the work on the recruiting trail, Sportstalent. The PC has a new article on Patrick Ingram who has rescheduled his visit to IC because Fran will be out of town for the original visit. He sounds very interested and appreciative of Fran's attention.

Found some video on YouTube, and he looks very quick running the floor and getting to the basket, passes well and plays very good D, which would help with Fran's press and half court trap.

It would be very nice to get Elijah Macon, looks like a beast under the basket.

Sportstalent makes some great points, but I am still disappointed with the PG situation. If Payne were still here and McCaffrey wanted to take a shot at a high risk Hubbard, then fine. We wouldn't be depending on Hubbard necessarily and if he flamed, oh well. Instead it seemed like Payne leaving was expected and many of us assumed that meant there was somebody else. When the dust settled we ended up with Hubbard for a cup of coffee and no depth at the PG spot.

I don't believe we tried and failed with all options. I think Hubbard was supposed to be a multi tool to help at 3 spots on the floor and the recruiting stopped for 2011. Yes Marble is serviceable if Cartwright goes down, but you don't win in the big ten with serviceable point guards. With Hubbard gone, Marble is our only legit slasher, so putting him at the point just kind of shifts deficiencies IMO. Is there one more Shaq Stoakes rumor we can start just for the hell of it?

Even if Fran knew Payne was on the way out well ahead of time, where Iowa truly swung and missed was on Cezar, I really think the staff felt he was going to be a Hawkeye...no insider info, just a gut feeling.
When that didn't fall into place and not knowing that Payne was going to leave, Iowa settled, but took a look at a guy they as a staff felt was not going to be a risk. If Hubbard were any other player or a high schooler it wouldn't be as big of a deal hem leaving, but he is a grown man who did what he did. He said all the right things and got good people to believe in him, he fooled a lot of good people, not just Fran. Would he have done the same to any other school he went too, who knows?
It is upsetting, but I still would have been more upset if he would have played a year, won newcomer of the year and then left abruptly like he did. At this point, Hubbard is a myth of something that could have been, nothing more and nothing less.
The question for the PG situation is, why look at kids like Stokes and others and not pursue them much harder than they were? Again, it seemed that so much was made of Cezar that Iowa took eyes off of players like Stokes and those players just simply went elsewhere. Obviously, I don't know any insider info, but looking from the outside in, it was all or nothing for Cezar and Iowa felt confident he would be a Hawkeye.

It certainly seemed that we had Cezar wrapped and ready to go. He would have been huge. Loved his exuberant attitude in the YouTube clips. If nothing else, coming so close to signing Cezar shows the improvement in the recruiting game under Fran. Still a ways to go. This season looms large.

I really hope the point guard situation doesn't go downhill fast with a Cartwright injury, HawkIhoops.

Good comments here. This staff having a player the caliber of Macon in play provides further evidence that this staff recruits at a high level and we will end up with a class that makes an impact in moving this program forward. I do feel dissapointed in the point guard situation and think they could have played that differently. I think Fran made the decision to gamble and go all in on Cezar and Hubbard liking his odds of landing both and fast forwarding the progression of the turnaround. It didn't pay off but when you come down to it I have confidence in Fran's experience with re-builds and in his intelligence and seemingly high basketball IQ.

I cant tell much from these Ghetto vids. Kid looks good but third is aau and a third is ghetto ball with no D. Also can you have a highlite vidoe with a song that every other word is not bleeped out and does not talk about having a gun in the car.

I always mute the volume on every YouTube clip. It is just loud obnoxious distracting noise to me, but that is what the recruits are listening to these days, probably every one of them or close to it, regardless of what neighborhood in which they reside.

Horseshoes and Hand Grenades

Well, Iowa now has Gesell and Meyer committed to them, that accounts for something. I cannot wait for the response of how Gesell wasn't that high profile of a recruit because it has been stated before.
The recent article about Gesell stating other programs saw him as a combo guard, but he saw himself as a true point. That has something to do with his recruitment as well, he spurned teams that wouldn't see him as that, Iowa did.

On Elijah Macon, if it is true he has only three official offers, I kinda like the chances. He has taken some unofficial visits, but there still aren't offers out for him. Iowa has offered him without any visit and he wants to visit Iowa, the sooner the better. I have maintained all along that the earlier these higher profile or fast risers verbal when Iowa is on their list, is a good sign for Iowa. If Macon comes to Iowa in the next couple of weeks, don't know when he will visit, then I like Iowa's chances even better. If Woodbury announces in September, or earlier then I think he will be at Iowa. The Hawkeyes chances get less the longer the process goes. In the end, I still think Woodbury will be a Hawkeye. It is the other recruits like Hornbeak and Macon that interest me the most and how soon they announce. Ingram is a Hawkeye, to me, when he visits, his comments in the articles that he has done just point to Iowa, if some other Major school offers, then maybe he thinks twice, but it seems he really likes Iowa.

He's evidently showing somebody something, both Rivals and ESPN have him a 4* and Top 50 player, ESPN at 45 and Rivals at 49.

I have no idea if Fran even has a chance, I'd like to think he does, but I'd take this kid in a heartbeat.

I just don't see him coming to Iowa. Cinci is def a better looking place than Iowa right now and he is from Ohio making things even worse. PLUS, you know he'll get a great offer. 1%

All these Ohio guys know Aaron White is the second coming of Larry Bird. If they want to win a championship, they know they will have to be on White's team. Mark Macon down as ours.
