Iowa @ Nebraska on BTN?

Many assumed, myself included, that the Iowa-Nebraska game on Black Friday would be a 2:30 ABC kick and replace the Colorado-Nebraska game that has been played in that time slot for the last several years.

But ABC has already picked Boston College @ Miami for that time slot and unless ABC makes this a regional time slot, seems likely Iowa-Nebraska will be on the BTN. If it became regional, ESPN/2 would have to provide a reverse mirror, not sure they will have the ability to do that with their commitment to the Old Spice and Anaheim Classic basketball tournaments.

I think it would be great exposure for the BTN and important for the BTN to get some marquee games and not always getting the 3rd tier of games.

No way ABC/ESPN doesn't carry this game, no 11am game has been selected yet so I could see this being the 11 am game on ESPN and then ESPN having Pitt @ WV as their primetime game.

Edit: Nebraska/Colorado played 11 am games as well and I believe the Neb/Oklahoma game was almost always an 11 am game. I don't think the time slot is a tradition with Nebraska just the date.

If that game is at 11am on Friday I'm going to be ******. Being on Friday is bad enough.

You might want to start getting ****** now so when it is announced at 11 am it won't be quite a blow.

With BC and Miami being picked up at 2:30 I don't see ESPN/ABC carrying 2 games at the same time on this date, you have Pitt @ WV, Louisville @ South Florida and Iowa @ Nebraska that haven't been picked up yet and the only games worth picking up, so one of these games will be at 6 pm before the Cal/ASU at 9:15 on ESPN. Now that leaves one of the remaining 2 games to go at 11 am and I'm sure ESPN doesn't want to show a Big East game at 11 am and then another one at 6 pm so more than likely Iowa/Nebraska will be 11 am on ESPN and the backyard brawl (Pitt @ WV) will be at 6 pm. Louisville @ SF will probably also go at 11 am but on ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Why is it not likely that ABC/ESPN would show 2 games at 2:30pm? BC vs Miami is a total east coast game and ABC/ESPN would be smart to show Iowa vs Nebraska to the rest of the country. I don't think the BC vs Miami 2:30pm start time forces the game to the BTN. ABC/ESPN rarely only show 1 game at 2:30, it is the primetime game that goes national on ABC most of the time.

Usually, yes, but not on the Friday after T'giving. They have just shown a single national game in the time slot in the past.

Just like the OP said.

Welcome to the reality that outside of Iowa City, this game isn't on anyones radar.

The two teams need history between them to be considered a marquee rivalry game, which there clearly isn't.

I know we play them on the Friday after Thanksgiving. It will be televised by somebody. It will be a great game. A lot of people will be watching, because it is a holiday.

Beyond that, I really don't care that much.......

The Backyard Brawl is routinely a night game, so that is almost certainly going to be the 6 p.m. game. We'll get regional coverage in the 11 a.m. slot. Hopefully the game is entertaining, and we can get the 2:30 slot in 2012.

11 am?? MAN I wanted to go to this game!!! ugh...scrap that, that would put me on the road on Thanksgiving....no thank you.

I am so happy Nebraska insisted that we play this game on Friday. Now we will get limited coverage and play at 11:00, thanks Huskers for screwing up my holiday.

DoNU did play CU at 11 am at times, IDK about OU, however. Usually, that was a bigger game.

fwiw, I heard a couple of weeks ago that it would be an 11am start time, rumor only.

Not that I disagree with you, but "BC vs. Miami is a total east coast game", how would that be any different than Iowa vs. Nebraska being "total" midwest game? IMO I don't see how one would trump the other on a national stage.

How do you figure limited coverage? If it is at 2:30 then it is going to be a regional audience, if at 11 am then it goes on ESPN to a national audience.

Also if you are saying "limited" coverage by playing it on Friday instead of Saturday you are dead wrong again. Playing on Friday will bring more publicity then on Saturday just because there are a lot less games on that Friday.

I live on th East Coast (New Jersey) and can guarantee there is no interest here in BC v Miami. None. Even taking off my black and gold colored glasses, Iowa-Nebraska has far more national interest.

I tweeted Matt Sarz about this, who is the #1 source for college football and basketball on TV, because he has Iowa-Nebraska on BTN on his website. He said he was guessing on BTN picking it up basing it on the fact that ESPN gets 41 Big Ten games and has picked 7 primetime already and Mark Rudner of the Big Ten said ESPN has 34 more Saturday games to do.

Again ESPN has committments to the Old Spice and Anaheim Classics and the NIT for basketball and they showed most of those games on the main 2 networks last year, although ESPNU could be used. ABC at 11am is a possibility, but I am guessing a BTN game and wouldn't be surprised if it's an odd start time, like 12:30 or something like that.

Mark my words when I say that Iowa and Neb, with be playing for a birth into the big 10 champ game, it would be wise for abc to pick up this game, nobody cares about bc and miami, that is a horrible game to show on prime time who is the idiot who scheduled that game for abc, he/she should be fired. Carry on that is all.

Fixed it for ya.

Im more interested in the start time than who picks up the coverage. I think 11 makes sense, unfortunately. Lincoln has to be a little apprehensive about how this crowd is going to behave. It could just end up being two very spirited fan bases enjoying some football but Im more inclined to think it is going to get alot rowdier than that. An 11 am game would give everyone alot less time to get inebriated and out of control. I had heard for years that that is why Iowa had so many 11 am games, the powers that be saw it helped keep the crowds more tame with less hours to drink before kickoff. Not sure if theres any truth to that but it does make sense.
