Iowa Nebraska line

Gosh, I sure hope they spy on Martinez -- it would be very out-of-character for Parker to do that until after halftime, but by then the game might be out of reach! Would love to see Belton spy him every play, & blitz him periodically. Agree on Belton's impact on the Hawkeye D. During Illinois' opening 75 yd drive the Hawks had replaced the injured Koerner with #30 Schulte...with poor results. The next Illinois drive they took out #30 and replaced him with Belton, and the Illini offense struggled the rest of the game...until Schulte and other defensive reserves entered the game and Illinois marched down the field again.

Norm and Phil Parker usually do not alter their defenses very much and spy on one player like a running duel threat for much of a game. Maybe a play or two. This style does make us a little more prone to having some big QB runs against us.

But Campbell is already in a very good position at middle linebacker to be a spy and he might be as fast or faster than Martinez. One of the last editions of The Heartland had a bit on Campbell and his linebacker coach and maybe Parker mentioned that with Jack's skills they knew they had to have him in the center of the field on most plays because he can just zoom fast side to side. If he and the other lnbkrs are in zone most plays they will have their eyes on Martinez.

Speaking of a typical Campbell play, in the Minnesota game there was a key time when the goofs had that weird fair catch on a kickoff where it got spotted on the 3 yard line. And Minny called a long pass on first down to catch the hawks off guard. Jamari the D Back got sucked in on a double move and the ball was completed about 30 yards downfield. Well look at the replay and one of the first hawks to tackle that receiver way downfield was Jack Campbell. He has a super charged motor and as soon as that pass was in the air he had to turn and run to get there first. Amazing play as he just goes to the ball.

Please go back and watch the opening drive as I remember Dolph saying Schulte came into the game later in the drive. The first 6 or 7 plays Jacobs was in and there were 3 linebackers (probably thinking more running plays), Belton was at safety for Koerner, and #30 Schulte was not on the field. Jacobs had let a running back get outside of him on one 3rd down and a TEnd outside of him on a first down but the wide open tight end dropped the ball. Jacobs was back in at least another play when the hawks had a 3 man line and blitzed 2 but Jacobs looked very tentative trying to get out and cover Chad Brown who caught the 3rd down pass for a conversion.

The 7th or 8th play was a 3rd and about 6 and Schulte came in at safety for Belton, they took Jacobs out and moved Belton down to CASH for more receiver coverage. That was the play where Jamari slipped and a guy got loose for a first down. But no doubt Jacobs was missing some assignments and those last couple of throws especially the TD pass the defensive backs were all messed up in coverage.

This line is nuts.....NE starts -4, Martinez out line jumps Iowa -1.5. Wednesday it is NE again - 1. Martinez was also their leading rusher. Smother had 11 pass attempts this year. Only real minutes against Fordham and Buffalo. Iowa will have 3 picks in this game and win by 10 or more. The interesting number is the under over of 41. No brainer...take the under

Vegas is just moving it according to where the money’s going. Happens all the time. There was likely a ton of money coming from both sides and they’re balancing it out. A spread of one point isn’t a big deal.

If Vegas all of a sudden made it 4 or 5 points, that would be something to sneeze at.

Iowa being a dog of any margin with Martinez being out (along with some defensive personal) is laughable.

After the game on Friday, all the pressure should be squarely on Wisconsin.

If Iowa messes this up, they most likely will only have themselves to blame (unless there is some horrible officiating). Iowa should win by at least 10.

There are rumors that a flu bug is going through the team and neither QB1 or QB2 have practiced this week. Heard that on the most recent Eyes on B1G podcast

Every time we go out there people predict doom and gloom for the Hawkeyes.

Remember 2015?

It will happen someday, but when the rubber meets meets the road a Ferentz coached team is usually more fundamentally sound, more physical, and mentally tougher than a Frost coached team.

That has proven to be, to this point, a tall mountain for Nebraska to surmount.
Not unlike NorthStar Boat Rower.
Combined, both are 0-Ferentz.

Sorry; yes, I meant Padilla and Petras. FWIW, Padilla didn’t meet with the media on Tuesday and he was on the list of players that was supposed to be there
Dang, well hopefully if they came down with it they recover fast enough. That sucks to try to be battling that stuff with a short week to prep.

Without Padilla or an injured Petras with the flu

Our D is going to have to hold the bastardly huskers scoreless

Will have to rely on field goals to win this one

I really hope the flu rumors are not valid
