Iowa - Michigan game start time

11 am, this game is not a big draw to say the least.

There are games less appealing than Iowa v. Michigan. Some Iowa fans seem to be the only people unaware of that.

Of all the conference games that day, it is one of the three best game. Since there will likely be two games at 2:30, it has a pretty good chance for that time slot.

I'll be surprised if it gets a 2:30 timeslot. Minnesota/Wisconsin is almost a given, considering both teams' records. Nebraska/PSU I also think gets a spot. PSU might not be good, but they're still good for TV numbers. And Ohio State/Indiana is a wild card.

According to posters earlier in this thread ABC/ESPN gets to make all their selections before the BTN. This is exactly the reason I think Iowa/Michigan goes to the BTN at 2:30. I think PSU/Nebraska gets taken for an 11AM slot on ESPN or ESPN2 before BTN can grab them for the 230 game.

ESPN probably wants to wait and see if Michigan takes a **** at northwestern this weekend or not. If they lose BTN, if not ESPN will probably select it for an 11am slot.

If it were that obvious, we would not be waiting another week to find out the game times.

Great point. TV controls the kickoff time for every team in the country but Iowa, which chooses their own game times.

I believe that at the beginning of the season, the Big Ten allows dialogue with school administrators to try to accomadate them within reason for kickoff times. I believe that Sally Mason despises the party culture at Iowa, and the reputation of the school, and would suggest that Iowa would always prefer early kickoffs if that is an option, to keep the drunkenness to a minimum. Not saying that they act on that, but in contrast I look at NW, where Fitz lusts after later time slots for more exposure for his program....despite their horrible season they have only had like 1 -2 early kickoffs.....same for Minny. But Iowa? Almost exclusively early kickoffs...does anyone think that is just a coincidence?

That makes just enough sense to be for reals!image.jpg

Tough Titties! Lol. Been a while since I've heard that. I think 2:30 is a good slot for exposure. Night games are probably better at times. But, 11am can't be that inviting to a bunch of recruits. You'd think Kirk would rather have the 2:30 for that reason.
Listen, I like to take my kids to the game. I don't have any problem with Sally hauling those out that are yelling vulgar language and are stinking drunk. But, for those that are responsible and like to drink and not act stupid.....this 11am stuff sucks.
Still love it! Nothin better than Kinnick!

Shoot, when they gonna announce the
kickoff time. Can't keep my life on hold
for much longer here.

Big Ten doesn't allow night games in November, so that scenario will never happen regardless of how good either team is.

Who said it was obvious? I'm making a prediction. Doesn't mesh with yours? Tough titties.

I read it that you felt it was pretty much a given that Wis/Min and Neb/PSU will be the 2:30 games. Maybe I misinterpreted your post.

what part is untrue?

Exactly, Delaney said something the other day about "we don't prohibit November night games...." I was wondering when that changed?? I remember around 2009 the BIG moved to prohibit those...heck it even ended up in the NCAA football game...

It's been a myth all along. The Big 10 has not had a hard-line policy prohibiting November night games.

Well, I do think Wisconsin-Minnesota is a given. I don't see BTN letting it slide, and Minny is still a small enough draw that ESPN may not want it at all. It just smells like the BTN 2:30 game to me. The others were just predictions that I tried to justify.

The Big Ten has never had an actual rule about November night games, but they have discouraged them. I guess the 2006 OSU-UM #1/#2 game was discussed about moving to night. It seems like they'll start to consider them, maybe in conjunction with the tier 1 extension that kicks in after... 2016?
