That was VERY entertaining basketball. I loved it! This team has all the tools to be an excellent squad. The only question is, how long will it take them to figure out the defensive end?
There will be some long nights for sure. I'm expecting about a .500 record and an NIT berth. But if Cook sticks around for 4 years, this team is going places!
Go Hawks!!!

It was exciting basketball. And fun to see some new faces.

I don't think they'll figure it out on the defensive end. Fran's teams have always faltered as the season moves along on the defensive end. But this team has the athletes to outscore teams and that is the only way Iowa is ever going to win with the way Fran coaches defense.

Fun game to watch. This will be a fun team to watch, albeit frustrating at times.
While we look good on offense, our defense is atrocious. A lot of young guys playing, so you'd expect that to improve over the year.
IMO Williams should have checked Carrington with Baer sliding over when he's out. Jok is not a good defender and uses so much energy on offense that he should not be guarding the best guard/wing on the other team ever.

Agreed. Jok looked like he did as a freshman on D last night. That stroke though!

I found myself thinking after the Savannah State game that I enjoyed watching this team play more than last years team simply because it wasn't just a two man show. I really like what I see out of these guys offensively, but they're going to need every bit of that offensive if they can't figure it out defensively.

Yeah the obvious being lack of D and missing free throws... Iowa turned it over too much also. But like the OP said it was fun to watch. Iowa will sorely need to develop a 3rd scoring option too. I thought Williams might be that guy but he seems reluctant to look for his own offense much.
It may hurt at times watching Williams and Bohannon struggle. But I liked what the announcer had to say about when Jordan came off the court after struggling for that stretch. He liked his body language and let's face it him struggling against stronger faster more athletic pgs was always going to be a struggle for him...

Good teaching moments in that game. Hope the players were willing to be taught. I would hand out red capes to most of the team, as their Ole defense was on full display.

Dude, we will be lucky to have him for two years.

I think Williams is going to be a scorer for the hawks. They were playing against four returning starters and a senior starting point guard. Iowa will find teams less experienced to be looser on defense. Look at Iowa. I would like to see Wagner break out offensively, but he hasn't done it yet, but the Seton Hall defense was tough on him. They looked pretty tough against Cook too.

I hope Williams does he seems to have the potential to. I'm not so sure about Wagner. He doesn't seem to have that soft of a touch and not much of a scorers mentality. Honestly I think he'd have been better served to be playing football. He don't seem to be a difference maker out there at either end of the floor. Maybe he'll prove me wrong as the season(s) play out but that's my 2 cents him today.

Williams has scored 6, 1 and 4 points so far this season. Maybe it's time to give up the Williams is going to be a double digit scorer thing you've been preaching all off season

Williams is going to be good this year once the game slows down for him. Wagner was aggressive in the game, but he was going against a lot of experience. Hopefully, Wagners aggressiveness will pay off down the road. It is true that Williams could be a little more aggressive. It seems to me that Fran wants to Utilize the aggressiveness of Uhl, Cook, and Wagner down low. It was something they didn't have much of last year. Its going to take a few games for them all to get comfortable playing against other teams. Jok has a sweet shot, but it doesn't really mean much if a guy scores twenty five points, but lets the other team score forty points.

Is there anyone on the team that isn't going to be good this year in your opinion? I mean you said Bohannon showed last night he was going to be good in the future when he really showed nothing

I watched last night and wondered how much Jones was really going to contribute or if he would lose out in the rotation.

Frank keeps talking about how he keeps trying to get Williams to be more aggressive. I'm not sure why he would say that if he didn't think he could be a good scorer. Uthoff always needed a kick in the butt too and he turned out to be a pretty good scorer.
