Iowa is so far behind Wisconsin

His own player missed two free throws just prior to that.

You don't win 13 NCAA tournament games against teams seeded better than you by just being lucky. The guy can coach.

I didn't want my post to come off like i wasn't giving Izzo any credit. All i meant was, when you're involved in a bunch of close games like you inevitably are in the tournament, there is a certain amount of luck involved. In my mind, it's a lot like Tom Davis's record of never losing a first round game. It's not like he was somehow some awesome first round coach, but then his awesomeness stopped after that. It is more of a random stat.

Izzo is clearly a good coach but MSU has also dodged a lot of bullets over the years for him to have the record he has.

Bo having the ultimate success towards the end of his career. It goes to show what patience and continued work year after year can get you. You get a system established and recruit players that fit your system. Then you get that special set and you make a run.

This is what bodes well for Fran if he hangs in there, continues to work his plan and we keep supporting him.

This is what I thought we were getting in Lickliter.....Even though I hung on longer than most it became apparent by year 3 he was over his head.

I dunno about that. They just have a knack of finding the right dude. Hindsight being 20/20, going from Dick Bennett to Bo Ryan was brilliant. What if they convince Tony Bennett to go from Virginia to Wisconsin........guarantee they will not skip a beat.

The only reason they got Bo Ryan was because Majerus and coach Braun from Cal at the time turned them down. Hiring Bo Ryan wasn't some master plan, he was the only one left standing and Wisconsin lucked out.

True......but they still could have went in a million other directions and to roll the dice with Bo Ryan was a huge gamble. Stu Jackson, Alvarez, someone thought it through and made the right call.

Pat Richter did. He hired Alvarez, Jackson, Bennett & Ryan. When Richter took over, the Wisconsin athletic program was on the verge of bankruptcy. He cut programs like baseball & brought in Barry. His three hires in basketball were Jackson, Bennett & Ryan. Sure beats the heck out of the Lickliter hire.

Iowa plays Wisconsin once next year in Iowa City.

With the way Gonzaga shot three pointers against Iowa, and the lack of success Gonzaga had against other teams in the NCAA tournament, it will be nice to see the influx of athleticism Iowa will get with the incoming recruits. There have been a lot of teams the last couple of years with a lot of success against Iowa shooting the three point shot. You would think Iowa has the ability to be a lot better both offensively and defensively next year even without the graduating seniors. Iowa would of probably destroyed Michigan State this last year if it wasn't for their guard hitting all those three pointers.

This program is on its way up, look at the players and how they have developed under Fran and staff. Seeing a young AW, RDM, and the amazing growth that Fran got out of Gatens leaves me feeling awfully optimistic about the future. We have to stay the course like Wisconsin did with Bo...yes, they have finished top 4 every year in conference but we are not that far off from doing the same. In Fran I trust

How about Michigan St. as well? Iowa is a loooooong ways behind both programs. Reason #1427 why Bary Garta should be fired.

I asked Scott Dochterman about Izzo's record against Iowa.
Izzo is 29-8 against Iowa, and has won 14 of last 15 and 9 straight.
Then, he, mentioned, that they blend together after a while.

I'm amazed that they've won 8 times against Izzo.

Last win was the 72-52 win in 2010-11, during the snowstorm where about 2,000 fans made it to the game.

The NBA game is more about the 3-pointer than the 2.
In college, no matter how great you're defense is, you have to have solid 3-point shooters.
Gonzaga shot 61.5% from the field that game.

Name me the last team in college basketball to shoot over 60% from the field, and lose?!

Look at the run we made in Mr. Davis's last year.
It was, mainly, because of Kent McCausland.

You have to recruit shooters, and then, worry about fundamentals, second.

I am right there with the posters who want to see better three point shooters at Iowa. When I watch the teams that have two, or even just one, absolutely cold blooded three point shooter, they are the ones that win those "close at the end" games. No, that is not the only variable...free throw shooting is certainly right there.

I think Fran has tried very hard to get a solid 3 point shooter, and I would guess that is a bit of a crap shoot. Jok may get there; Ellingson may be a player; a couple of the recruits coming in are good candidates; and, JU nearly fills that bill. Next year will be a VERY interesting year.
