Iowa, Iowa State Extend Football Series

Delusional hawk fan is delusional.

First off lets face reality.

1. No one gives a **** about Iowa or ISU
2. This game is the best game for both schools every year, no matter what you tards say.
3. This game will never be a national rivalry.
4. Blah blah blah this rivalry isnt bigger then Wisky or Minnesota. Lets get real its not and wont be. Nebby will never come close to this rivalry. Is it huge across the country no. Big deal. I really don't give a **** about the Iron Bowl.
5. We don't matter is a wieners excuse for playing ISU and we need to schedule more directional Michigan schools.
6. Face it Iowa can't risk playing home and homes with better schools. Neither can ISU. I do find it comical you puss wipes canceled the Missouri series. And before you jump on me Misery cancelled the Illinois game. Illinois didnt back out.

An important change. This year was the last year when ISU got the big financial break for the Iowa game. All future games they get the same as any other team we play. this means huge dollars no longer flow to ISU when they play at Iowa.

Not really true. By having Iowa on the home schedule to pin to season ticket sales, ISU guarantees itself season-long sellouts every other year, which is a huge financial boon to their program. The offset will be the huge drop in season ticket revenue on the off years when they don't have an Iowa on the schedule to boost sales for an otherwise unattractive product.

ISU will sell at least 15k fewer season tix next year compared to this.

It's all about money, that is keeping that HyVee money coming in. They have a local sponsor and the money stays in Iowa. These deals are all about money. These games are well attended so there is fan support. I don't know about Ames but this game is probably the best attended game in Iowa City. By that I mean not only is the stadium sold out, the parking lots are full and traffic is horrendous for a Iowa/Iowa State game. Worse than any other home game.

Yes, the ISU game is the game with the most people tailgating, without question. I don't know why so many internet fan board Hawk fans can't see the upsides to this game.

Most Hawk fans like it. Message board trolls hate it.

Other way around dude; they were the ones who backed out.

On the one hand, keeping state money in the state is a powerful argument.

Actually it's not much of an argument at all...no less, a "powerful" one. We pay all visitors a share of the gate. Why should we give UNI or ISU the money. I have no desire to support their football programs. As for keeping money "in state"...games with UNI and ISU generate LESS money. Far fewer fans stay over night and patronize the hotels, restaurants, etc when they come from Ames and Cedar Falls. If you want to generate more revenue... bring it in a team and fans from outside the state boundaries.

I can't name a recruit who came here because we play such and such a team. Can you name some?

How could you possibly measure or define such a thing? (answer..you can't). But in general... National exposure is always good. It builds brand awareness and identity. There's not a kid in Iowa that doesn't know about the Hawkeyes. (so playing UNI or ISU does nothing for recruiting) But if we have to play a "meaningless" game, then let's play it against some folks who may not be aware of how awesome Kinnick and Iowa City are. If one potential recruit in Western Ohio sees Kinnick on TV, because we play Toledo.... it's better than playing UNI.

As for scheduling in-state schools in general... ISU I can see, at least they belong to a BCS conference. (despite the fact that they're sucking on the tailpipe) UNI...never. FCS schools don't belong on our schedule. If they're lousy...like Missou St, it's embarrassing. It they're good...like North Dakota State, it's a disaster waiting to happen. If it's UNI... nobody gives a damn outside of Cedar Falls. I'm cool with UNI...love to see them in the playoffs every year. But it's not our job to build their program.

You're an idiot.

Iowa-Missouri: The rivalry that never was | Hawk Central

Officials agreed on a four-game series to be played from 2005-08, but Tigers coach Gary Pinkel canceled the deal after being hired in 2001.
Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi (Matthew Holst/Press-Citizen)
“I call that intelligent scheduling,” Pinkel told
reporters when the bowl matchup was announced.
“We were building our program and that didn’t make a lot of sense, to me, to play such a great program.”
As a result, occasional showdowns between Iowa and Missouri have taken place away from the football field, such as a second-round game in the 1983 NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

And just because it's fun to remind you clowns of the differences between the two schools, Rick Stanzi won as many bowl games (3) as the ISU football program has in its entire 100+ year history (3).

On the the hand, keeping state money in the state is a powerful argument.

If Iowa wins the Big 10, they'll get national attention - I guarantee it.

iowa picked up a florida kid due to playing in a florida bowl. not exactly what you are stating, but pretty close. vernon jackson.

The argument about keeping money "in-state" is ridiculous both teams would have home games so instead of getting 2 in state gates you only get one by continuing this series...seeems to me the argument reeks of homerism.

Not a fan of the Iowa-ISU series. Not because I hate the clones, I always pull for them to win when not playing Iowa. But I would like to see some different teams, and not from the MAC. Don't think we need to necessarily schedule powerhouse schools either. What about teams like South Florida, TCU, Cal, or for Eric maybe North Carolina as home and home series, at least gets some exposure in other parts of the country. Still need to have a couple cupcakes early though.

I don't mind playing ISU, but as others have said in the past, I'd rather do an every-other-year thing and schedule another mid-BCS-level opponent on the off-years. I enjoy the rivalry, but it doesn't need to happen every year.

This makes no sense. Keith Murphy said it too. Its a total butthurt "you’re cheating on us and we hope you fail" isu mentality. How long before the cyhawk series was actually a rivalry? Like 30 years? Were 2 years into the Heroes game and we’ve played them with 2 bad teams.

So full of fail.

I'm just gonna start with.. Mizzou cancelled on us though.

And then we beat their supposedly good team in a bowl a couple years later.

Lol @ an Illini/ISU fan coming and talking any sort of **** about other programs. You get a little wasted last night? You'd have to be to show such ridiculous anger..

No it's not. 2012 was the last year of the old contract that gave the visiting team a percentage of the gate receipts. 2013 was the first year of the new deal that lets the home team keep all the money.

Logical rivalry....needs to continue.

I agree. Instead of dumping the Clones let's dump some of the future games such as UNI, Ball st.,
Ill. st., North TX, and N. Dakota state. There are many state rivalries that have no interest to anyone living outside of the state but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be played.

Problem is a home and away. I would be fine with your idea, as long as it was always at home, so we could pick up another home and away.
