Bill Fitch was a Davenport native who played college ball at Coe in Cedar Rapids (shortly after the NFL's Marv Levy) then had a long pro coaching career that included a championship with Boston in 1981, then a championship appearance with Houston in 1986 (where he ironically was beat by his old Celtics team).

Still a nice accomplishment for Nurse. I remember him playing at UNI like it was yesterday.
 
I thought of Bill Fitch after I posted this. As a Cleveland fan I remember him coaching the Cavaliers with the miracle in Richmond in 1976.
 
Bill Fitch and Jimmy Rodgers were the head and assistant coaches when Phil Jackson was playing at UND. That was quite a bit of coaching talent concentrated in one out of the way place.
