Iowa gives away free tuition to 5 random student season ticket holders

Anyone else getting a bad vibe from this? If they really wanted to increase attendance, why not take this money to lower the aggregate price of student tickets (currently $170) for a relatively weak home schedule this year? Instead, they choose to randomly distribute this money which could possibly end up in the hands of a trust-fund, stuck up Chicago kid. This marketing ploy makes no sense to me.

Stupid gimmick is dumb stupid.

Welp , just bought my lottery tickets. I was going to buy my student tickets anyways but the prize is the cherry on top.

They don't buy tickets. They stay on melrose during games.

This years schedule is pretty good compared to recent years. Nebraska, Wisconsin, ISU, and NW.

I agree that the teams are decent but there are more things to consider, especially for the students. The first three games (UNI, Ball State, and Iowa State) are like rapid fire. They're the first three weekends in a row, then there's a month break until homecoming. Then another long break until the "good" games against Nebraska and Wisconsin, both of which students would possibly be missing for Thanksgiving Break.

bush league indeed. But if my kid wins, we'll take it

The math doesn't work out to much of a benefit though, if they simply applied it to the entire allotment of student season tickets. $80,000 spread over 10,000 tickets only brings the price down by $8.

That being said, I still believe student tickets should be very low priced. They're the students for god sakes...let em in the game for $5-10 You want the student section packed with crazies every game. that alone... would improve the atmosphere.

Not so fast. Barta puts out a statement saying this is in violation of state lottery laws and the promotion will be suspended immediately. LOL!

This entire thing was nothing but a huge embarrassment. It was bush league and reeked of desperation in the first place, then we come to find that the marketing department didn't bother to make sure it was even legal. Chalk another fail up for UI athletic marketing.

I'm sure the students are very upset about having to get wastey face 3 wkends in a row during the nicer football weather; and then have to get wastey face in the colder temps when the "good" games come to town.

I still don't understand how the students don't want to go to these games. Let's for realz... $170 for season tix isn't that much to ask.

You couldn't make up some of the things this department f u c k s up. At a certain point when do people lose a job over this stuff. What have they done that didn't blow up in their face?

Meanwhile...I ******* hate this guy...
