Cynically speaking, any chance the "promotion" was a ploy to sell those remaining tickets? Maybe the response was such that they hit their target number and all of the sudden the "promotion" is put on hold while the legality is questioned/researched...?
I haven't been following and only know the headlines, but could it have all been a marketing ploy?
I highly doubt it was some kind of trick. That's way too clever for anyone in our marketing dept. to have come up with.
JFC, that's just embarrassing. The initial idea was lame enough. But then no one thought to check whether something like this might not be legal? Sally Mason needs to make some heads roll in the Athletics Department. I'm not sure it shouldn't start with Barta's.
