Iowa Finishes Season at #25

Even if both would have stayed our QB’s doesn’t have it in big games. He’s a good kid and a average B1G quarterback. Average in the B1G isn’t any thing to be ashamed of.
Nate Stanley:

2017 @ Iowa State (Win):
27-41; 333 Yards; 5 TDs; 0 INTs

2017 vs Ohio State (Win):
20-31; 226 Yards; 5 TDs; 0 INTs

2018 vs Wisconsin (Loss):
14-23; 256 Yards; 2 TDs; 1 INTs

2018 @ Purdue (Loss):
21-32; 275 Yards; 1 TDs; 0 INTs; (1 rush TD)

2019 vs Mississippi State (Win):
21-31; 214 Yards; 3 TDs; 1 INTs

That “Big Game” things is such a myth. Special teams cost us the Wisconsin game, and I think you could argue defense cost us the Purdue game. Nate sucked royally against Penn State and wasn’t very good against NW. I’m not arguing that he’s the greatest ever, but he’s played big time in big games before. Hopefully he will continue to improve next year.

Wisconsin actually gave us one in 2015. They fumbled on the one yard line and had like 4 turnovers at least.

I would say they pretty much dominated us in 2017 outside of two Josh Jackson pick 6’s.
IIRC, an Iowa defensive lineman had great penetration into the Badger's line and stuffed the runner for a fumble. So, not a pure give away, crucial play was made by Iowa, but I get your point. Give away is when your special teams don't get out of the way of a punt that is rolling on the ground, and you give up the ball and game for free, for example.

Fast forward to 33 seconds. On 2nd and Goal from the 1 the Wisconsin QB gets tripped by his own linemen. Maybe that’s good penetration but still a terrible play by him to not just take the loss and live for 3rd down.

Obvious "re-work". As of the time I posted, we showed as "Others Receiving Votes" and Mississippi State was #25. Somebody "made a call"...
I'm hearing two things. One is that it is two separate polls - and that seems to be the case, as no one else except USA Today and Fox Sports list their coaches poll as "USA Today/AMWAY". The other - and this is believable also - is that all the major outfits that receive the poll had a solid deadline that had to be met. These were the numbers at the deadline, and they will not be altered (note that the numbers have not changed at ESPN, CBS Sports, NBC Sports, SI.com and a host of others - and anymore now, will not change). AFTER the deadline, one coach (probably from the SEC) sent in his numbers, that AMWAY/USA Today accepted - but no one else did.

Bizarre, to say the least. Especially considering we're "fighting" over a #25 ranking!

“Well it’s closer to eight wins a year” damn guy your starting to sound like an Iowa State fan.
What's your version of occasional. Since Ferentz got it going in 2002 Iowa has finished 7-5 or worse six times, same as Nebraska, just two more times than Wisconsin.

Northwestern has done it eleven times. I'm not going to even bother looking up the rest of the west

And beating the #18 ranked team in the country, from the SEC no less, is not "middle of the road."

These polls are a joke with how much meaningless pre season polls influence these ranking. If Iowa was pre season #12, they would have been ranked the entire year and probably finished ranked #16 or #17. Since they weren’t ranked in the pre season they finished at #25
Which is why there shouldn't even be a poll until after the first six games or so. But the way it is now, your position at the end of the year is highly dependent on what a bunch of biased individuals think before any games are even played.

CLOSE LOSS +October 5th: At Michigan; THEY HAVE NEW QB I BELIEVE, TWO SOUND DEFENSES BUT MICH PASSING GAME IS DOWN; THEY WIN A LOW SCORING GAME

WIN +OCTOBER 12th: PENN STATE; NO MCSORLEY WIZARDRY

WIN+OCTOBER 19th: PURDUE (Homecoming);

WIN+October 26th: At Northwestern; LIKE 2015

+[11/2 - OFF] (yes, two bye weeks next season);
LOSS+November 9th: At Wisconsin; CLOSE GAME

WIN+NOVEMBER 16th: MINNESOTA (Family Weekend);
WIN+NOVEMBER 23rd: ILLINOIS;

CLOSE LOSS +Friday, November 29th: At Nebraska. FAIRLY HIGH SCORING BUT HAWKS CANT QUITE STOP THEM

9-3 EVERYONE

Final AP Top 25 rankings: 1-Clemson 2-Bama 3-OhioSt 4-OU 5-ND 6-LSU 7 (tie)-UGA & UF 9-Texas 10-WSU 11-UCF 12-UK 13-Wash 14-Mich 15-Syracuse 16-A&M 17-PSU 18-Fresno 19-Army 20-WVU 21-N’western 22-UtahSt 23-Boise 24-Cincinnati 25-Iowa

Probably the best outcome considering how the season transpired.

I applaud the outcome of the season as much as I bash the coaches. My expectations are 9 plus wins every year. Good Job Hawks!!

Maybe, but even as KFz's contract and bonus structure (as well as that of his assistants) is at least part based on a final Top-25 finish, it would not surprise me that is also the case with the Mississippi State coach. So, yeah, you can be sure that each coach will make sure the one that helps them will be the one seen in their athletic department.

Did you see KF's response when a reporter asked him about the coaches poll?
(paraphrasing) ". . . that's why we don't participate in the coaches poll . . . "

WTF? Does KF realize by taking this stance Iowa can't influence the poll but our rivals can. We voluntarily handed the keys to the bulldogs to put themselves ahead of us. Doesn't seem prudent imo.

Quite a few coaches don't participate, or delegate it to GAs, and it's easy to see why. Ranking the top 25 teams in the country requires having watched a good number of them play that week, which is impossible for a head coach to do while also focusing on their own team. The coaches poll has been a farce for a long time.

True, but it doesn't change the fact Iowa isn't ranked and the guys we beat are. I think too many fans think if we don't agree with something that makes it irrelevant or non-existent.
Reality . . . let's all be a part of it.

Fair point, but I don't think it's that biased to think Iowa should be ranked where MSU is in the coaches poll due to said head-to-head victory.

At least the AP got it right.
