Iowa develops talent, right?

So tired of hearing how many players we send to the NFL. Who gives a sh&&? I want to see those players produce at Iowa and give us 8, 9, 10-win seasons ... Since 2010 we are 34-30 ... And our last 3 recruiting classes are ranked in the 50 or so range ... Holy cow ... anywhere else and Kirk would be gone by now ... And anywhere else Barta would have been gone, too ... They will be both be gone after next season ... No way this farce continues on ...

Don't toy with me, bro.

How many skill players do we put in the league? A lot of lineman and TE's, and that's about it. We lack skill player talent, and its hard to win without it.

Iowa has a small margin for error, misses on recruiting, attrition. Always will.

1-2 losses most years, especially 3 out of last 4, has had more to do with in game coaching/play calling, than lack of talent.

We continue to lose 1-2 games we shouldn't, the bigger problem is that 2 of the last 3 years we haven't won won the 1-2 games we "shouldn't".

Iowa State, Maryland, and nebby were games we should have won and I firmly believe coaching (namely offensive and special teams) playcalling in the 2nd half of all 3) were the biggest problem, not the only problem, but the biggest.

Win even 2 of those games, the narrative would be different, win all 3, it would be completely different.....again....small margin for error.

Iowa does a good job of turning 2 star and 3 star recruits into NFL players, much better than your average program.

But Iowa does not do a good job of turning all that NFL level talent into wins on the field, as your graph clearly indicates.
I agree. Ferentz does one hell of a job at getting lower rated players to play at a high level. I've always told my SEC friends if Ferentz could get talent to Iowa like some of the other big schools he would probably be sitting on a couple national titles. Look at how good he gets 2 & 3 stars kids to play. Just imagine what he could do with 4 & 5 star kids.

It really depends on how you look at those stats, because they are very odd indeed for Iowa. They don't bring in high ranked classes, and they win at about the rate the classes says they should (just slightly above what we should actually).......

BUT, Iowa puts a disproportionate amount of players in the NFL for their recruiting rankings. That tells me that they are developing the talent they do get at an excellent rate, but the disconnect is why isn't Iowa winning more, with NFL players on the team???? My contention is poor in game coaching, and terrible schemes.

It is really simple - Iowa is great at developing non skilled players. Linemen on both sides. They are terrible at developing skill positions. Other teams are great at developing skill positions. A fast, athletic quarterback or running back can make up the difference for three bad linemen on offense by making something out of nothing. A great linebacker can make up the difference of two bad interior defensive linemen. A single great wide receiver can open up an entire offense.

This isn't true in the pros, where nearly everyone is at an equal level of talent, and the difference between a winning team and a losing team comes down to outstanding individual players (especially at qb). In college, even if you push a team around in the trenches, if your qb can't throw, your receivers can't get open, or your backs can't read a block and be explosive, you end up having to have perfect execution. Most days, on most college teams, execution is not going to be nearly perfect. Teams without great skill players can't make the ball bounce their way. Teams with great skill players can.

Absolutely, he's held in high regard. Which might get a player a tryout, but not a contract or meaningful career.

So you agree with me and then say I miss the point?

Many losses to the ISU's and Directional Michigan's of the world would argue against this.

I wonder what that graph looked like after the 2009 season. If I remember correctly, I saw something like this after 2009 and Iowa was 3rd or 4th. Going nearly 500 for four years doesn't help much does it.

I want someone to put a chart together that shows teams that play other teams close and within one score. We have to be at the top of that one. I'm so proud.
