Iowa completes basketball coaching staff

Yes.

I am very pleased with this final addition to the staff.
Love the AAU/Nike connections.
Love the experience.
Love the balance in this staff.

X's and O's- Fran,Speraw
Young recruiter with energy- Francis
Older recruiter with connections- Dillard.
Guy wired to NBA- Bowen
Younger guy/confidants to players- Francis and Bowen and GA?
Older father figure guys- Speraw and Dillard

I know it is just on paper at this point, but once again, Fran has hit a homer as far as I am concerned, with this staff.

Now, go out and recruit and win games,Hawks!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Perfect mix on the staff right now. If Coach Fran can get players like he has gotten his assistants, it will be a very exciting time to be a Hawkeye fan!!

All i can say is wow! Fran has done an incredible job at assembling his staff. This is everything we could have wished for and more!

When they announced the new hire (Fran) I was disappointed it was not Pearl or some other big name, in only 2 months he has created more excitement for Hawkeye Basketball than we have had in the past 15 years. Wow i have never seen a coach with a better startup plan than Fran.

Now we need to go out and support the team next year regardless of the record, we need to convince Barta to surround the court with college fans and create the same atmosphere that the Breslin Center has and Phog Allen Fieldhouse, If we can get Carver rocking again it will convince the recruits to come and play here!!!

awesome just awesome, just think what this guy will do in the early signing period with some scollies to offer!! Once again for never taking the court a coach can't do a better job!!

I guess Dillard was brought in to recruit Nike into getting us some better uniforms!?!?

All kidding aside, I love the hire!

Slow day today

There's other news going on at the UIHC today that seems to be at the forefront of many of our thoughts.

I get the feeling McCaffrey saw the same "sleeping giant" that Hayden saw when he decided to take over Iowa football. He didn't take this job just to move up...he's really got vision to build a top tier program.

He knows what he wants and has selected his assistants (and sold them on coming here) with a clear plan in mind. I can't imagine a better combination across the board.

It's great to be a Hawkeye!

Here's an idea now that Dillard is on board they need to do promotions with lets say the first game you give out free Nike T-shirts to the first 1000 enter the gates.

They can also have drawlings for Nike shoes.

Also it would cool to see the student section wearing new Nike T-shirts that will have whatever their section would be called instead of the Hawks Nest.

fran has got to be on cloud nine with his staff along with everybody associated with hawkeye basketball

FM seems to be doing a lot of things very smartly in addressing specific needs of the program and his staff. Scratch where it itches. Plow up snakes. That sort of thing ...

Re: Slow day today

I'm honestly surprised this hasn't been bigger in the media. Made the front of the Chicago Tribune online site yesterday. Truly a bizarre set of circumstances.

Here are a couple of links to what's been said publicly.

University of Iowa Doctor Charged With Filing False Stabbing Report | KCRG-TV9 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa News, Sports, and Weather | Local News

Iowa doctor allegedly stabs himself during trip to Chicago then lies to police - chicagotribune.com

Sounds like a cry for help...or he just flipped out for some reason.

Just so pumped right now... with the way Alford and Lick went about it I was feeling like this is only Iowa and thats just the way we are always gonna be. Then we get Fran and I am feeling that maybe IOWA can really be something! Alford had his dad for a coach and some others that didnt even need to shave yet. Lick... Have already forgotten who the assts were. Have patience people things are gonna come back in a BIG way!

Patience is overrated when it comes to hoops. Winners build it quickly!

I agree with you to a point.

I'm not expecting miracles next fall, but I do expect MAJOR improvement in year 2. By year 3, I expect at least NCAA bubble, if not an almost guaranteed at-large bid.

I am not expecting miracles next year either. However I do think that we will see a more inspired group of Hawks take the floor on a nightly basis which will be good to see. ALSO...at this point, I really don't care who the GA is for some reason. He has made so many solid hires that I am kind of expecting someone good. Let's just say I am sure he will upgrade our GA position from last year.
