Iowa beats Alabama by 8 points!!!!

At least one team performed well tonight. Congrats to Coach McCaffrey and team. I don't think anyone predicted this one.
 
Nice to see a Hawkeye athletic team fight til the very end. I would rather see a team that has no expectations go out and show a ton of heart than a team that has all the talent in the world, lay down time after time again!
 
I wouldn't be surprised to see Cartwright and McCabe starting soon. They both outplayed their counterparts. We were actually down 7-0 to start the game. Our current starting 5 isn't getting it done.
 
Props! I was glad to see they didn't quit last night and to get a W over an SEC team is a quality win.
 
Archie also made some good plays once again. I think he is working on the most improved award for the team...the game was fast paced and mistakes were made, but the mistakes were made by both teams. The Hawk's defense was fun to watch and really shutdown Alabama's O. The Hawks also hit the boards very hard again tonight.

Unless he didn't start today, McCabe has started the first 3 games. But I agree that Cartwright will be starting over Cully by time the Big Ten season starts.

Archie is looking good, but you can't give the most improved award out to someone who is playing his first season!

It was fun to see Iowa not be the confused team on the court! Really happy about this win.

Hmmm. Wasn't Archie one of Lick's recruits? Just trying to think of something positive to say about Lick. Just trying to be nice I guess.
 
Very nice to hear about the win over Alabama. It makes me sad to say that I look forward to this very depressing football season to soon be over (after the bowl game) to focus more on watching a scrappy basketball team with a coach willing to do some different things.

I'll take it even further re: Lick's recruits. McCabe has been great and Marble looks like he'll be something in time. McCaffery's guy Besabe... not so much at the moment. On the other hand, Cartwright has been a very necessary addition.

I don't get the love affair with a previous coach? The very same coach that led the Iowa Basketball team to it's worst season in school history. The very same coach that lost the top scorer from two of the three teams that he coached while at Iowa and the #2 scorer from last years squad.

Archie didn't even play for him so how can you even make a comparison to what he 'could' have done last year vs what he has done in two games this year.

Brust and Larson were also Lick recruits. Brust has scored 2 points for Wisky and Larson is being forced to redshirt.

Josh Gasser for Wisky will play ahead of Brust his entire career at Wisky.

Believe me, I'm not pining for the days of Lick. Just pointing out that McCabe has been great and we're still waiting to hear from Besabe, which I think is the complete opposite of people's expectations. W/r/t Cody Larson, yes, he's redshirting at Florida, but he'd definitely play for us. I wish we had him regardless of coach... in fact, I think he'd be a great fit in McCaffery's system. Such is life. The important thing is to have the right guy steering the ship, and I feel a lot better about that than I did a year ago.
