Iowa and the West

We were bottling up Penn State's ground game early, but they were wearing us down in the fourth quarter and the RB was powering through solid tackles and moving the chains.

That an onimous sign. We could really use a clone of Shonn Greene in the worst way.

This is why I'm concerned about Minnesota.

Of course Iowa can win the West. They win out, and Wisconsin loses to Ohio State, and Iowa is the likely West winner. Iowa just no longer completely controls their outcome; however, I think Wisconsin will lose to Ohio State.

So, here it is, Iowa beats Purdue and Northwestern. The same weekends, Wisconsin beats Illinois and loses to OSU. Both teams get a bye, and then they battle in Madison on November 9. A win in Madison and Iowa controls its destiny again (assuming the Gophers choke down the stretch, which isn't a stretch).

I was down, pissed that the Hawks have given away two winnable games. But, it's not over. And I'm not just being the Black Knight when I write this.

This message board is bipolar.

Before the season everyone talked about how tough the schedule was. Most people thinking 8-4 ish type year.

Iowa starts 4-0 squeaking by ISU. Suddenly everyone projecting Iowa to go on the road and beat a ranked Michigan team. Some even expecting blowout.

Two weeks later Iowa loses two one score games to top 20 opponents both games they were underdogs and now all of the sudden Iowa is the worst team in the country. They’ll be lucky to get bowl eligible. Mind you Iowa is still ranked nationally.

Iowa fans now appalled that Iowa is a 15 point favorite against Purdue.

The offense has been atrocious the last two weeks, I get that. There are certainly flaws here but as you pointed out there is still an opportunity in front of this team to turn it around.

I'll give Wisconsin credit. They're 3-0 on a B1G schedule in which Iowa would probably be 0-3. Extremely impressive on both sides of the ball but all of their B1G games have been at home against average at best QBs. NW's 3rd stringer threw for 100 yards on them in 1 quarter so I'd be interested in how they do against a decent QB.

But outside of Ohio St, Indiana, PSU, & Minnesota the B1G doesn't have a lot of teams with a good passing game. Purdue if they get their QB back but he might be out for the year.

Purdue's #3 QB just threw for 420 yards against Maryland. Yeah Wisky is a tougher defense than Maryland but Brohm has shown they can pass the ball.

"STANLEY HAD 5 TDS AGAINST OSU SO HE IS THE BEST QB EVER." OK4P from 2017 until the day of the Michigan game.

One game doesn't mean shit, bud.
